At that moment, after taking a glance at Gu Xianer, Gu Changge suddenly pulled out a white bottle from his chest and handed it to her. “This is the water from the Lake of Reincarnation Qin Wuya spoke of. I took a look at it and there shouldn’t be a problem with it.”
“Water from the Lake of Reincarnation?” As Gu Xianer was pondering about Qing Xiaoyi’s situation, she did not accept the bottle right away. Rather, she peered at him and squinted her eyes. “So, memories from my past life will be reawakened after I drink this?”
[If Qin Wuya and Sky King Zhi Yang were telling the truth, how am I supposed to face Gu Changge once my memory returns? Judging from what Qin Wuya said, I was once their Junior Sister, and both of them are Gu Changge’s enemy…]
“Perhaps. Perhaps not. I’m not certain either,” Gu Changge said.
“Then, do you want me to drink it?” Gu Xianer raised her head and stared at him as indescribable emotions surged in her eyes. She didn’t know why she would ask him such a question out of nowhere, but she couldn’t help but wonder whether she would turn into another person if her memories from her past life reawakened.
In response, Gu Changge chuckled aloud. “Why? Are you going to turn into another entity once you drink it? Or, will it grant you the power to beat me?”
“I am not talking about that. Don’t change the subject.” Gu Xianer furiously glared at him, knowing he was digressing from the subject on purpose.
“You know, some decisions are yours to make yourself, since you’re the one who chose this. Besides, I believe you’re curious as to whether Qin Wuya and Sky King Zhi Yang were telling the truth.” Gu Changge withdrew his smile and revealed a rare stern expression, as if he was contemplating for her sake.
Hearing that, Gu Xianer looked at him deeply. It was as Gu Changge had stated, she was eager to find out the validity of Sky King Zhi Yang’s words, and she wondered if reincarnation actually existed. Previously, she didn’t accept the water from the Lake of Reincarnation out of concern that the water might be dangerous, but now that Gu Changge assured her, it must mean that the water was fine.
After a moment of consideration, Gu Xianer pursed her lips and made up her mind. She finally accepted the little white bottle. However, the next moment, her actions were even more direct as she, without any hesitation, turned the bottle upside down and poured the water onto the ground.
*Splash!* Along with the splash, a silver flow of vibrant light gushed out from the flask into the air. It was as if the Milky Way was plummeting. The water from the Lake of Reincarnation glowed dazzlingly, carrying wondrous runes, but the moment it was exposed to the air, it vanished without a trace, as if it was vaporised.
Seemingly surprised by that, Gu Changge painfully asked, “Did you have to pour it all out?”
Coldly, Gu Xianer rolled her eyes at him. “So what? Did you really want me to drink it?”
“What an idiot.” Gu Changge heaved a sigh. “If you weren’t going to drink it anyway, why didn’t you just return it to me? Water from the Lake of Reincarnation, wasted just like that. Jeez, Qin Wuya must have paid a great price to retrieve this small bottle.”
“Aren’t you missing the point here? Are you seriously upset over some lake water?” Gu Xianer stared at him, disaffected. She thought this decision of hers would cause Gu Changge to have a new perception of her, and perhaps even be happy or comforted about it. That he would give her a compliment or two, but evidently, that wasn’t the case.
[Is he genuinely heartbroken over this small bottle of water? Do I mean less than the water to him!?]
Looking at her praise-seeking expression, Gu Changge subconsciously laughed. “You threw away my Lake of Reincarnation water, and you’re expecting compliments? Gu Xianer, are you confusing your dreams with reality? You’d certainly wish you were as beautiful as your dreams.”
“Gu Changge, you accursed bastard! All you do is say mean things to me! If you think I’ll ever entertain you again, you’re wrong!” Gu Xianer grew infuriated, her body trembling out of rage. Though, her petite body didn’t quite display her trembling. Nonetheless, after she rebuked him, she blinked out of the area and disappeared.
[‘You’d certainly wish you were as beautiful as your dreams,’ he said? Was he saying that I’m ugly?] Gu Xianer wanted to continue rebuking him after voicing her fierceful remarks, but after witnessing Gu Changge’s strength, she decided not to do so. After some pondering, the only threatening words she could come up with were those that she said.
Shaking his head, Gu Changge watched as she left before withdrawing his smile. Truthfully, even if Gu Xianer were to drink water from the Lake of Reincarnation, nothing would happen. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been handed the flask over to her so assuredly.
Given his personality, he would never do anything that was out of his control. Even if Gu Xianer were to restore her memories from her past life, and thereby get attached to her Seniors from her past life, she would only have two choices. Either to oppose him or sever her relationship with them.
Either way, both choices were too cruel to Gu Xianer, and Gu Changge didn’t want her to have to stain her hands with the blood of her loved ones, as that would be outside of the kind and cheeky image he had of her in his mind. Therefore, discarding the water of the Lake of Reincarnation was indeed the best choice for her. But of course, the result would be the same even if she were to drink it.
Essentially, a long time ago, Gu Changge found out her Dao Bone possessed highly complex and wonderful ancient inscriptions that were not of the current era. Since those inscriptions affected his cultivation process, he eventually destroyed them.
As a matter of fact, those inscriptions were clearly fragments of memories of someone’s soul. Thus, Gu Changge easily deduced that they were Dao Xian’s so-called Reincarnated Memories, which were inscribed onto the Dao Bone.
Nonetheless, Gu Xianer’s Dao Bone was seized by Gu Changge back when she was merely a child. And now, her Dao Bone had been refined in Nirvana Pool, which was now incomparably pure. Hence, it bore no traces or imprintment from her previous life. In other words, Gu Changge destroyed the only way Gu Xianer could regain her memories from her past life a long time ago.
After the exchange with Gu Xianer, Gu Changge stopped minding her. Before the formidable cultivators from Purple Mansion would unleash their attacks on him, he brought along Qing Feng, intending to rescue Qing Xiaoyi. It had to be said he simply looked for a residence and kept her there, after he kidnapped her.
Given Qing Xiaoyi’s cultivation level, she would remain intact even if she were to be confined for years. Meanwhile, Gu Changge wasn’t that concerned of her safety as well, since he had already successfully obtained a copy of her Source, which contained her Celestial Demonic Physique. Though, since he did not directly extract it from her, she wasn’t hurt during the process.
Very soon, Gu Changge and Qing Feng hurried to the quiet, isolated residence that bore no residents as if it had been abandoned for many years. When they finally met Qing Xiaoyi, she was weaker and paler than before, as her delicate face obviously thinned. It was as if she was a pure dandelion, struggling to thrive.
“Young Master Change, Brother…” When these two’s arrived, Qing Xiaoyi widened her eyes in stupefaction as the panic, perturbation and hopelessness she amassed ever since she was abducted gradually faded away.
Back then, the mysterious person who kidnapped her didn’t reveal his face, and she wasn’t informed of his intentions either.
“No worries. We’vre here to save you,” Gu Changge said with a smile as he dispelled the seal imposed on her.
“Xiaoyi…” Thrilled, Qing Feng almost burst into tears as his face reddened.
“It was Young Master Changge who defeated Sky King Zhi Yang and came to rescue you.” Qing Feng was so ecstatic he could barely speak properly, and upon his sister’s bafflement, he explained everything that recently happened to her. Everything, including how Sky King Zhi Yang abducted her and intended to hand her to the Successor of Demonic Arts.
Without missing any detail, Qing Feng also told her how Gu Changge subdued Sky King Zhi Yang and forced her whereabouts out of him before coming to rescue her.
After listening to the whole story, Qing Xiaoyi was thoroughly stunned. As she had always looked up to Gu Changge, she expressed her gratitude to him. Given how Gu Changge saved her out of that devil’s grasp, she was even more convinced that there was some sort of inexplicable fate between the two of them.
In response, Gu Changge simply waved and claimed that it was only his obligation to do so.
Accordingly, he brought Qing Xiaoyi and Qing Feng back to the Black Tortoise Empire. Upon the news, Elders from the Immortal Academy, including the one who gave Qing Feng the Nine-Cycles Spirit Restoration Pill, dashed out to receive them. Naturally, they were gladdened by Qing Xiaoyi’s safe return, but considering another great matter was rising, they promptly took the siblings out of the empire without tarrying any longer, now that the Black Tortoise Empire became a land of conflict.
Indubitably, disturbances, too, arose in other empires as innumerable cultivators hastily fled after having predicted that something big was coming.
Since Gu Changge was now in the Black Tortoise Empire, if Purple Mansion wished to avenge Sky King Zhi Yang, that would be the first place their men would attack. Those men of Purple Mansion were each formidable cultivators that could effortlessly obliterate the world, let alone a tiny kingdom. Furthermore, hundreds of them would be coming, meaning a tsunami of destruction was coming.
Taking that into consideration, Gu Changge decided to leave Black Tortoise Empire for the time being so it wouldn’t get dragged into the matter. To him, the fall of such an insignificant kingdom meant nothing to him, as he was planning to head to Vermilion Bird Empire, the base of Chu Hao, another Fortuitous One, to put him between the crossfire.
[With being caught up in the uncontrollable raging flame of war, how could the oh so tiny Vermillion Bird Empire defend itself? Are they gonna to try and drive me away?]
” Master, the men I sent have lost Qin Wuya. His concealment techniques seemed to be very advanced. He managed to hide without leaving any tracks.” Soon, Yin Mei hurried over and made a report to Gu Changge with confusion on her charming face.
Ever since Qin Wuya escaped that mountain range, Gu Changge had ordered Yin Mei to keep track of him. After such massive loss, there was no way Qin Wuya would allow Gu Changge to leave any marking on him. After all, he was an intellectual man with countless concealment techniques. Even Yin Mei didn’t expect she would suffer a loss when just trying to track him.
“Nevermind. Qin Wuya is bound to reveal himself.” Hearing that, Gu Changge waved his hand, seemingly unaffected. As long as Tang Wan was under his control, Qin Wuya would never be able to escape.
“Things won’t be peaceful here for the time to come. You should return back to the Alliance of Thousand Merchants. Look into certain documents about the Hidden Ji Family while you’re there.” After delegating a task to Yin Mei, Gu Changge instructed her not to tarry and leave.
“En,” Yin Mei softly blurted, not worried about him at all.
For the days to come, the Black Tortoise Empire wasn’t exactly harmonious as cultivators and young prodigies could be seen fleeing in the form of divine rainbows. They were either returning to the territory of the force they came from or the Immortal Academy. Even those that were natives of the Black Tortoise Empire left their homes along with their family members.
Despite being troubled, the Black Tortoise Emperor didn’t dare to confront Gu Changge about the matter. All they could do was pray that the battle wouldn’t damage the empire. Otherwise, Black Tortoise Empire wouldn’t be the only casualty.
At the same time, Gu Changge also received a message from Yue Mingkong, who inquired whether he needed more assistance from the Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty, to which he rejected.
Undoubtedly, Yue Mingkong was aware that Purple Mansion alone was hardly a problem to Gu Changge, so upon receiving the answer, she didn’t question him any further since she, too, had her own matters to tend to.
Out of the Seven Tools of World Domination, she had gotten her hands on two: the Mirror of World Domination and the Seal of World Domination. Now that she discovered the whereabouts of the Sword of World Domination, she was now making plans to gather all Seven Tools of World Domination to unlock the ruins of the Immortal Palace, buried beneath the River of Time.
While Gu Changge was in the Black Tortoise Empire, the rest of the Upper Realm could not be at peace.
Outside Sky Emperor Mountain, a divine lake suddenly shot out a great amount of godly beams, illuminating its surroundings with an aquatic blue hue. From within, a hazy, gigantic being soared to the sky, holding a Three-Forked Halberd, which seemed to harbour the might to devastate all lives. In that instant, the eyes of the being were fixated on Purple Mansion.
Simultaneously, from the mountain range that was filled with the shade of blood, vibrant mists surged as another being with an overbearing aura walked out with layers of red clouds under its feet.
“Purple Mansion slaughtered the Successor of Sky Emperor Mountain. Such sacrilege is not to be forgiven!” Overflowing with murderous intent, the freezing voices of the terrifying being thundered through the sky.
Golden beams penetrated the skies as an infinite number of beings from the different Ancient Immortal Races were gathering. As their murderous intent spiked through the billowing clouds, dense darkness arose, resembling the formation of grey clouds.
In the middle of this darkness, was Ying Yu.
Upon listening to Gu Changge’s advice, she returned to Sky Emperor Mountain, and the first thing she did was to persuade the terrifying experts of the sect to brush off the humiliation that they were facing. Obviously, these experts were also frustrated about their situation. Thus, immediately, without any hesitation, each of them left their retreat in order to seek justice.
The fact that Purple Mansion had protected Sky King Zhi Yang, who was working with the Successor of Demonic Arts, meant that they were also protecting the Successor of Demonic Arts. The woeful foe of Sky Emperor Mountain! Hence, such an immense grudge had to be paid!
Very soon, those in the Sacred Emperor Realm domineeringly summoned out a Space Tunnel, to break through the barriers of space and distance, in order to reach Purple Mansion as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, countless forces, including the Ancient Ye Family, Endless Fire Kingdom, Golden Kylin Clan, and White Tiger Clan, all declared a drastic change. Their military forces menacingly gathered in the sky and covered the sunlight. Among them, there were enormous, ancient battleships, individuals with glistening scales, shining feathers and demonic wings. Their presence was awfully overwhelming.
As soon as the Space Tunnel opened up, they immediately charged towards Purple Mansion.
At once, the whole Upper Realm was in unspeakable turmoil, sensing the omen of an Immortal War. Other than Purple Mansion, forces of different forces also appeared to participate in the battle, while the Immortal Gu Family was notably quiet.
…
In a land covered in mist and unfathomable mysteries, Mystic Mountains grandly stood as Chaos Mists wafted around it. It was as though it was the beginning of the world.
“Puny Purple Mansion. How laughable. How dare they provoke the dignity of the Immortal Gu Family. They must be sick of living…” In a spectacular, magnificent palace, an Elder with the resemblance of a farmer with yellow teeth was smoking, chortling out of scorn and belittlement.
“Purple Mansion must have forgotten how their Founder got in trouble and came to our Gu Family to beg for help. It seems time is ever so unforgiving. If the current generation knows about what happened in the past, we would have tormented them to death.”
Along a faint tone, another Ancestor with the scent of soil slowly walked out of the palace, seemingly energetic. Beside his waist, he carried a rusted sword, though that didn’t affect his exuberance.
In the palace, there was the Head of the Gu Family, who was also Gu Changge’s father, Gu Lintian. Donning a respectful face, he knew he didn’t have the right to speak much before these Ancestors.
Unlike the other forces, the practice of paying respect to the Elders and Ancestors within the Gu Family wasn’t based on seniority, but based on true strength. Nonetheless, there was no set hierarchy. After all, many of the Ancestors, whether they were dead or alive, whether they were in retreat, as well as where they were buried, remained unknown.
As time passed, even those with the Gu Family had lost track of how many Ancestors were left in the family. Regardless, should they face any atrocities, or had burning questions with no answer, all they needed to do was visit the Ancestors’ tombs.
In fact, after all these years, except for Gu Nanshan, the Ancestor from Gu Xianer’s branch, who recently appeared to get some fresh air, hardly any other Ancestors of the Gu Family showed themselves. After all, the affairs of the family were the responsibilities of the current Head and Elders of the family.
At the moment, the Ancestors that were currently in the palace, had achieved breakthroughs in their cultivation, and they were delighted by that. Now that they were out, they decided to take a look at their Juniors.
After all, Gu Lintian would never bother them with a trivial matter such as Purple Mansion.
