“It’s starting, it’s starting! The battle of the one and only Sunflower that represents our Azalea!”

“Oh, we can hear a song that is akin to a beautiful hymn!?”

“We are catching a glimpse of a page in history being written!”

“Great Saint Aphrodita, Mary!”

“G・S・A・M! G・S・A・M!”

“”GSAM!! GSAM!!””

I really want to go home and I’m scared.

What’s with this atmosphere? It feels like if I win, the fans will ambush me in the dark and kill me.

Only a small portion of the crowd was making noise, but the heat and pressure was so intense that I got the impression that the entire audience in the arena was going wild. The other spectators might just be having fun normally, but I’ve got a feeling that hardly anybody is cheering for me.  And that’s probably true.

“—–! —————-!”

Well, whatever. I have Lady Violet and the others cheering for me. That gives me more than enough energy.

I cannot hear what they’re saying because Lady Violet herself is not used to yelling in places like this, and they’re far away, but I know they’re cheering for me, so it’s fine. Besides, one has to imagine how loud their voice would have to be for me to hear them at this distance, among this frenzy (and collective curses), it would also take a lot of courage.

“Hey, Clo! If you lose, I’ll make you treat me for some skewers! It might look bad, but just punch her and win!”

Of course, I could a Sister, who did not care about the people around her, cheering for me without any problems. Her determination to get her way is very reassuring.

“You two sure get along well.”

As I waved back in response to the cheering, Ms. Mary, who had come to the center of the arena like me to make the vow for the duel, started talking to me.

We’re a little away and due to the frenzy, the judge probably would not be able to hear our conversation. So, it should be fine to just respond. Also, unlike His Highness, Ecul and the others, she still had not shown any hostility towards us.

“Well, Cyan is a female friend I can talk to without reservation. She’s a bit absurd, but she’s sensitive to other people’s feelings, so she’s good at keeping her distance.”

“Her too, but I’m also talking about Violet.”

“… Well, I do think we get along well.”

However, even though she shows signs of hostility, I cannot help but feel wary of her, especially after what happened earlier with Ecul.

It may sound harsh, but she’s a woman who has charmed many men. I do not know how she might try to draw me in.

“When you waved at her, she also waved back happily. Fufu, she seems to be having fun, unlike when she was with us.”

However, in contrast to my wariness, Ms. Mary was smiling happily.

Looking at her made me feel stupid for being so vigilant… Still, I felt this when we met before and Cyan said this too, but Ms. Mary still does not seem to harbor any hostility or ill will towards us.

If their relationship was so tense that she would even accept a duel with Ms. Violet, I think it would be natural for her to… harbor a little more hostility or even resentment towards us.

“… Do you not resent Lady Violet? She became hostile towards you after she saw you get along with His Highness and the others.”

“Treat those who are good with kindness, and also treat those who are not good with kindness. Thus, kindness and goodwill are attained.”

My question was answered with words that sounded like a proverb from somewhere.

… What does that mean? Are those words of some famous person?

“Everybody is born a good person, so even if Violet was confrontational towards me before, she can change into a good person. If I held a grudge against her, I would turn into the hostile woman you spoke of, Mr. Clo.”

In other words, it’s a philosophical belief that people are fundamentally good.

She’s saying that she cannot deny somebody who is trying to be good, no matter who they are.

I do not know how much truth was in her words, but if that’s what she believes, she can’t be a bad-

“Even if one cannot become happy, they can still try to feel it.”

-Can’t be a bad person. That was what I thought.

Those words stayed with me in the shape of an indescribable foreign feeling.

“You see, Mr. Clo Heartfield, I want everyone to be happy.”

She did not seem to care about my strange mood, or perhaps she was even unaware of it.

Ms. Mary spoke with a childlike smile, as if she was telling me a dream and spoke as if she were looking somewhere into the future.

“The people in front of me. The people within my reach. In order to achieve what Arete refers to as ‘living with excellence’, I want to make everybody happy.”

Those words sounded like delusions or a young girl’s dream, but when it’s Ms. Mary saying them, they have mysterious persuasive power, and they draw people in. In fact, I agree with the words themselves. I don’t know much about Arete though… is it a person’s name?

“I know that I’m saying something strange. My father has told me to stop dreaming. However, I genuinely wish for the happiness of others. That also leads to my own happiness too. That’s why, I have to do what I can first.”

That’s a very admirable thing to do. I have no intention of denying her.

Father Snow White, whom I respect, has said something similar, and while some might laugh, I support that wish.

In fact, I’d say that the atmosphere within the school is pretty good, except for matters unrelated to Lady Violet.

Everyone was laughing. Nobles and commoners were mingling and having fun. During my time, there were a few nobles and commoners getting along, but this is the first time I’ve seen the walls between them disappear like this.

I’ve heard from the gossips of the students that she put in a lot of effort to liven up the school festival, and according to Ash, she helped the executive committee during the preparations, giving all kinds of instructions and being the person who contributed the most.

Let’s say that Ms. Mary is a reincarnator and used her knowledge of ‘When the Ring of Fire is lit, the World is painted Red’. Some might criticize her for usurping the position of the Heroine, but it’s not like Ms. Kriemhild is unhappy, and although His Highness and the other love interest are hostile towards us, their reputation within the academy is excellent.

It’s not like she’s using her knowledge to only think of her own profit, so it’s fine. In fact, it’s possible that she’s just putting on a good act to have handsome men wait upon her.

However,

“Why is Lady Violet not included in that ‘everyone’?”

However, there’s somebody clearly lacking in the ‘everyone’ Ms. Mary is talking about.

At least in the ‘Ring of Fire’ Lady Violet is a typical ‘villain’ whom the protagonist does not even try to talk to, and she also disappears from the storyline in every route.

I did not see it directly, but I know that when Lady Violet was at the academy, she was quite confrontational and had gone out of control due to her jealousy of Ms. Mary’s closeness with His Highness.

“Why, you ask? Well-”

Of course there’s a chance that she desperately tried to stop Lady Violet and tried to get along with her. If that ended up in her engagement getting broken off and her being abandoned, I can’t blame Ms. Mary. I’ve not fallen so low that I would push perfection on her and get disappointed on my own.

However, Ms. Mary—

“You know too, don’t you? What kind of role Violet Valentine is playing.”

She smiled as if she knew that no matter how hard Lady Violet struggled, she would never be happy.

Ah, damn. I’ve just realized that my previous prediction was correct.

The reason why Ms. Mary has no hostility towards Lady Violet.

Or why Cyan said that she held ‘no ill will’.

And at the same time, I also understood that her wish to make everybody happy is real.

Ms. Mary really—

“You believe her role has already been set, so there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Never held any ill feelings towards Lady Violet, even prior to the hostility and malice.
