Through his intelligence department’s investigation, he knew Lu Fan was very strong and could not be measured by Levels alone.
In Andrei’s assessment, he had already placed Lu Fan in the T0 Level, the same as himself and Charles.
But now, it seemed like his assessment was wrong! Far too wrong! At least, Andrei believed that even ten of him combined would not be able to take down a Dark Castle.
Lu Fan merely smiled at him and spread his hands, saying. “There’s nothing particularly daring about it. To be honest, I had my eyes on the Dark Castles from the very beginning. Since Monster points are proportional to how strong they are, aren’t the Dark Castles the best place to farm for points?”
Andrei shook his head and bitterly smiled. “What you say makes sense, and I can’t even argue with you.”
“Actually, I thought you had discovered some secret to farming points that I could learn from you, but now I see that was just a daydream. Your method of farming points is something I simply cannot replicate. To be honest, I once thought like you. After receiving this Hunting Mission, I even tried to test myself against a Dark Castle, to see if I could conquer it.”
“But, I couldn’t hold on when the third wave came.”
“Fortunately, my Profession Characteristics allows me to do High Burst Damage and have Immunity to Crowd Control Skills. When I saw things were going south, I immediately ran away. Otherwise I would have died there, right in front of that Dark Castle.”
“From that moment on, I knew that these Dark Castles are landmines for this National Trial – anyone who touches them would die.”
At this point, Andrei’s eyes were rather resentful. “Well, that was until I saw a monster like you, who actually managed to clear a Dark Castle. You basically help me realise that the Dark Castles aren’t landmines, but a treasure trove of points! Seems like this Pet Dragon of yours doesn’t just look impressive, it is also extraordinarily strong…”
Lu Fan smiled, “The Dark Castles where the Nine Hell Demons are located are very tough. I had to put in a lot of effort into clearing just that single one.”
“Well, you’re still far better off than someone like me who can’t clear it, right?” Andrei smiled helplessly, “Brother, to be honest, our country has collected quite a bit of intelligence about you. Even so, your strength still surprises me. Now, I’m just glad that I considered you an ally earlier and didn’t think about taking everyone out. Otherwise, I’d probably be dead by now, right?”
Lu Fan smiled without speaking.
Andrei was right. The reason Lu Fan had not killed him for points was entirely because Andrei had not treated him as an enemy, right from the start.
He had been calling Lu Fan ‘Brother’. If Lu Fan had turned around and struck him down, it would not have been right. Otherwise, Lu Fan would have really considered taking out Andrei for those extra tens of thousands of points.
As things stood, having one more friend and one less enemy was not a bad deal.
More importantly, Lu Fan was interested in Andrei’s Mission.
Thinking of this, Lu Fan asked. “So, you’re saying you tried to complete this Mission before but failed, right?”
“Yes.” Andrei did not hide it. “And I almost died there. Now, this Mission is stuck on me, preventing me from taking other Missions to earn points. To be honest, seeing how many points you have made my eyes green with envy. I almost couldn’t control my hammer.”
Seeing Lu Fan raise an eyebrow, showing signs of reaching for his Flaming Meteor Sword, Andrei hurriedly smiled and spread his hands. “Don’t worry, I’m someone who can resist temptation.”
Lu Fan: “…”
“Actually, seeing this Mission above your head, I have an idea. Why don’t we cooperate…”
Andrei’s eyes lit up with joy. “You mean, I lead you to find the Dark Castle, and you’ll clear the Hell Demon inside?”
Lu Fan nodded. “Exactly.”
Andrei agreed without even thinking. “That would be great! If you can help me clear my Mission, or make me fail the Mission, then I would be able to take on other Missions. That way, my point-gaining speed would be alot faster.”
“Alright! Let’s form an alliance. I’ll take you to find the Dark Castle!” As he spoke, he extended his huge hand towards Lu Fan.
Lu Fan smiled and shook hands with Andrei. Thus, a temporary alliance was formed.
According to Andrei, the Mission he received was for the Dark Castle in the Swamp region.
Looking at the distance, if they both flew at full speed, they should be able to find it in an hour or two.
Originally, Lu Fan had planned to head straight for the Dark Castle, but Andrei sheepishly said that before they went, they should complete the meat trade first. To be fair he had been craving Lu Fan’s roasted meat for quite a while.
Lu Fan smiled helplessly and, as previously agreed, gave Andrei one beggar’s chicken and two pieces of roasted meat.
Andrei also kept his word and transferred two thousand points to Lu Fan.
In the National Trial, points were something that could be given to others. Sometimes when representatives from other countries were cornered, they would choose to give all their points to their opponent in exchange for a chance to escape from the National Trial.
There were only two ways to leave the National Trial alive.
First, one country’s representative could propose to end the National Trial, and then all representatives could choose to agree. Once that happens, the National Trial would end, and their points would be ranked.
As long as one country’s representative disagrees with ending it, the National Trial would continue.
Second, if a representative’s points got reduced to zero, they could leave the National Trial.
Although having their hard-earned points taken away and withdrawing meant giving up their country’s twenty percent resources, at least their life would be preserved, right?
Regardless, in the National Trial, the transfer of points was completely within the rules. Whether it was to preserve one’s life, or using points to win over allies, both were valid exchanges.
As for using points to exchange for food like Andrei did, this was probably the first case that it had happened.
In fact, right now, Feather Country’s delegates were watching Andrei being wasteful, already cursing at him. Their representative was using two thousand points to exchange for a few pieces of meat. Words of anger were not enough to expel their frustrations.
After the trade, Lu Fan rode on Xiao Ye, following Andrei to search for the Dark Castle.
On the way, Andrei noticed that Lu Fan’s Xiao Ye kept glaring at him with hostility.
“Brother, why does your Pet Dragon keep looking at me like I’ve eaten something of hers?” Andrei felt a bit uneasy under Xiao Ye’s gaze and turned to ask Lu Fan.
Lu Fan coughed dryly and said. “Well… Pet Dragons are generally fierce and don’t like strangers. Don’t worry. With me watching, she won’t bite you.”
“Alright then…” Andrei believed him, glancing at Xiao Ye again, and warned. “You better keep a good eye on her. If she takes a bite out of me, I’d probably be done for.”
Little did Andrei know that the reason Xiao Ye was so hostile towards him was because the two pieces of roasted meat Lu Fan had given him were actually Dragon Feed…
