“What are you…”
Xue Hu cried out. Calling a Foundation Establishment senior uncle over would cut their reward in half.
“Senior Uncle Ye will arrive two hours later, just as we capture the demons. It won’t affect our gains,” Zhu Ze said.
He had the same worry, but he chose caution over everything.
The demons’ golden shield was highly peculiar and had him worried they might have a backup. Since Senior Uncle Ye was strong, any backup was sure to be destroyed.
Maybe even earn them a little extra.
“Earth Prison!”
Zhu Ze made signs and the earth shifted to form hardened cages around the beasts.
…
Xu Hei had been racing for two hours, barely arriving in the nick of time. He spared no expense in his haste, even taking a few pills.
He reached a depression, turned into a swamp after the downpours, a home for crocodiles and other freshwater animals.
Spreading his expanded Divine Sense, Xu Hei picked up on two faint golden glows coming from the earth piles ahead.
The demons were badly damaged, but still breathing.
There was no sign of humans around.
“Earth Prison? Humph, they sure are cautious.”
Xiao Hei’s eyes glinted coldly, taking his time with the rescue. He let his small lizards spread out.
The enemy was bound to be hiding. Using Divine Sense to spot them would tip them off. Puppets was the best bet.
Hei Huang had remade these puppets and were nigh indistinguishable from animals.
Xu Hei was certain the enemy couldn’t be at the Foundation Establishment Stage since the Halo Spell couldn’t take such power.
This assured him of facing anything below that.
…
Two humans observed from under a rock a hundred meters away, hidden from sight.
[It seems I was overthinking things. The demons have no help.] Zhu Ze relaxed.
He set this up just to be safe. Caution never hurt anyone.
Xue Hu sneered inside. [Senior Brother cultivated for thirty years with no sign of improving as of late, his nerve failing more and more. Once Senior Uncle Ye shows up, I’d be surprised if I get to keep my share.]
His eyes focused as two small lizards popped into view, staring back at them.
Xue Hu ignored them, but then he saw them opening their mouths and shoting a white light.
Not just them, but more lizards popped up behind, lighting the area in white.
“Damn it!”
Beams of light slammed into his back with a boom. Then front, left, right, and every other direction, fifty strikes in all.
Boom~!
The covering rock was blown to bits. Xue Hu coughed blood, his clothes catching fire as he bled from the many wounds.
He was down in one blow.
Zhu Ze was a hint better. At the 8th layer of Qi Refining Stage and extra cautious, he used Harden the second the glows popped up, blocking most of the blast.
Though he was still ragged and burnt patches covered him.
“Sky Effigy Sect’s Mechanical Puppet Art! Curses, what are Qin Kingdom’s cultivators doing here?”
Zhu Ze’s heart shook. Sky Effigy Sect was stronger and bigger than Snake Catchers Sect, number one in the Qin Kingdom.
The white snake and wolf king roused in their earth prison.
They sensed the familiar aura.
“It’s him!” The white snake spoke.
Zhu Ze took a deep breath to calm down.
He’d be falling back any other time, but knowing Senior Uncle Ye was on his way gave him courage. He cupped his hands. “Fellow Daoist of Sky Effigy Sect, this must be a misunderstanding.”
The reply he got was another round of lights.
Boom~
Zhu Ze took out three revolving shields and hardened his skin to defend himself. Except for the pulverized clothes, he was unharmed.
Xiao Hei nodded from the shadows. The lizards were too weak, handling a mid Qi Refining cultivator, but nothing beyond.
Zhu Ze’s features fell at the other’s disregard for diplomacy. He’d just have to do the same. They may be from the Sky Effigy Sect, but they’d suffer all the same in the Chu Kingdom.
“Since Fellow Daoist doesn’t feel like talking, now it’s my turn.”
Zhu Ze used Earthen Motion to dive below and close their distance, having felt the enemy’s location.
Hiding underground was no different from being exposed to the Shifting Mountain Sect cultivators, specializing in earth arts.
“Earth Spike!”
Zhu Ze activated his art and a rock elongated in the distance, aiming for Xu Hei.
“Windblade!”
Xu Hei retorted, sending a flurry of attacks that severed the spikes to pieces on their way to Zhu Ze.
“This power…”
Zhu Ze winced, forming an earth armor in reaction, proving ineffective.
Splat!
His arm flew high, landing in a pool of blood.
Badly wounded from one exchange! The enemy used his full power, many times stronger than those little puppets.
“Spare…”
Zhu Ze never got to finish as the sudden danger made his skin crawl.
Death!
Zhu Ze scrambled through the sludge to retrieve his arm, then came out to shout, “Save me, Senior Uncle Ye!”
A cultivator riding the wind on his broadsword set his eyes on the upcoming marsh. “Halt!”
“Too late.”
Xu Hei’s ruthless gaze fell on his target, using his cultivation to unleash a mighty thunderbolt.
Boom!
The lightning struck the marsh, splashing mud three hundred meters high as the lightning branched all over the place, targeting anything living, including the fleeing Zhu Ze.
The lightning seized his body cooking him inside and out.
Zhu Ze’s hair was burnt, twitching as he fell into the mud with eyes wide in despair.
Xue Hu tried to slip away as they two fought, but the lizards blew him to pieces.
Killing twice in a row!
His power crushed his enemy with impunity.
Xu Hei rushed at the two earth piles.
“You fiend!” A howl shook the forest.
Elder Ye Haichuan of the Shifting Mountain Sect was enraged.
His half-a-mile-wide Divine Sense locked on Xu Hei, a snake. A damn snake spat windblades and thunderbolts, as well as controlled puppets, to kill the disciples.
