“Please have mercy, Prince Gu…” Ye Liuli shamelessly said those words with her shaky voice after garnering a tremendous amount of courage and determination, as if that one action exhausted all her energy.
As the princess of an Ancient Immortal Race, she always lived an admired life ever since she was born and had never suffered such humiliation. Let alone the fact that she was no match for the man before her, even her guardian, who was supposed to be unstoppable, couldn’t face him.
“There’s no need for apologies. After all, I’m no evil man, so I shan’t take this personally.” At that moment, Gu Changge waved his hand to stop Ming Lao as he revealed a mocking grin on his face.
Despite the beautifully worded sentence, Ye Liuli was made aware that if she didn’t apologize today, everyone except her would be slaughtered. The man was highly dangerous. Be it his mind or methods, everything about him scared her. Right now, she regretted behaving rashly and how she came barging into the palace without listening to every detail beforehand. What she was facing now was all self-inflicted.
Seeing that, Xue Yi heaved a sigh of relief. “Nevermind, Lady Liuli. The misunderstanding is resolved. See? As I said, Prince Gu won’t trouble you.”
In response, Ye Liuli shot her an icy glare. The serf—slave, to put it atrociously—went out of her way and made a decision for her mistress. Therefore, Ye Liuli decided to report everything that took place today once she returned to the Beyond.
Xue Yi forced a bitter smirk. Nonetheless, she wasn’t at all concerned, knowing that the leader of the family would surely compliment her for her decision. Essentially, Gu Changge, given his identity, was definitely worth the gratification. Furthermore, it was Ye Liuli’s youthful mindset and ego that forbade her from apologizing, while Xue Yi’s decisions were ultimately for the good of her mistress and the family.
As Ming Lao withdrew his hands, the overbearing aura that filled the room accordingly waned.
“Thank you for your mercy, Your Highness!”
“Thank you for your generosity, Your Highness!”
Having survived the tragedy, the Life Spirits knelt down and expressed their gratitude.
“Don’t thank me. You should be thanking your real savior, Lady Liuli,” Gu Changge blandly stated.
“If I may, what is your full name, Prince Gu?” Having regained her senses from the utmost shame, Ye Liuli gazed at Gu Changge’s hateful face. [Why are all the evil ones blessed with good looks?]
“Gu Changge.” Subsequently, the emotionlessness on Gu Changge’s face dispersed as a faint smile showed. Donning a naturally composed look, he handed his tea cup to Su Qingge who was beside him. His gestures were all heavenly, but only to those who didn’t witness his terrifying methods a few moments ago.
Stunned was Ye Liuli upon Gu Changge’s speedy change in behavior. Due to that, nonetheless, she grew even more perturbed. Above all, the most frightening man in the world was the one who never revealed his true emotions or his true thoughts and baffled others with his mystery.
“Prince Gu, we’ve come here today with some questions, and to demand an answer.” Ye Liuli took a deep breath as she forced herself to calm down. No matter what, she would have to face the evil Gu Changge eventually.
“Oh?” Gu Changge raised his brows as his smile grew odd. “Demand an answer? I don’t remember owing anything to you, Lady Ye.”
“No, it’s not related to me, but my brother—Ye Chen.” Ye Liuli cut to the chase as she couldn’t bear Gu Changge’s condescending, pretentious attitude.
Nevertheless, pressuring opponents was just what Gu Changge loved. No matter how much she loathed him, and despite the fact that she couldn’t stand his attitude, she still had to remain determined. Although she was the princess of the Ye Family, Gu Changge still wouldn’t let her have her ways easily. Indubitably, he had the intention to force her onto her knees, but he was aware doing that might lead to the opposite of the desired result.
Forget the disagreement from Xue Yi, if Ye Liuli, as the princess of an Ancient Immortal Race, were to kneel down, that would also mean disgracing the entire Ye Family. As tacit as he was, Gu Changge had no intention of digging a hole for himself. Otherwise, things would only worsen were he to return to the Beyond. After all, there was a limit to everything.
As for the killing of Ye Liuli and the rest, it was currently unachievable as that would lead to tremendous loss of opportunities, and thus, that was not even under Gu Changge’s consideration. As the daughter of the leader of the Ye Family, she must carry some sort of protective item given by her father.
“An answer for Ye Chen? I don’t remember doing him any harm. I reckon there is some kind of misunderstanding, Lady Ye? Or are you suggesting I should do something to him? Squashing a bug isn’t at all difficult for me, you know.” Gu Changge leisurely beamed.
Hearing that, Ye Liuli grew anxious as she felt the intimidating, belittling indifference of Gu Changge. Indeed, to him, Ye Chen was nothing but a bug, perhaps even less. She was completely confused. [How did the feud between them even form in the first place? Theoretically speaking, Chen doesn’t know my true identity, but how did he offend Gu Changge and manage to survive? Or perhaps… Gu Changge, indeed, had no ill intention toward Chen? What did Chen do? What had he experienced all these years I was away?]
Having a grasp of Ye Liuli’s thoughts, Gu Changge retained his uninfluenced look as he scoffed in his heart. [She must be wondering why I haven’t killed Ye Chen off. Oh, girlie, how could I kill off a crop that’s waiting to be harvested? Well, not that she’d understand anyway.]
[Impossible. Chen’s an honest person. There’s no way he’d stir up trouble on a whim!] Ye Liuli shook her head in dismay before turning to Su Qingge who was beside Gu Changge. [That must be the Most Graceful Damsel of Eastern Barren whom Chen was rumored to be fantasizing and drooling over for. She’s indeed graceful in the white robe of hers.]
Although Ye Liuli was nowhere hideous, compared to the damsel before her, she simply lacked something—charisma that was developed through maturity of age. Hence, it was understandable how Ye Chen was charmed by the damsel.
“Since you have no intention of murdering Chen, why did you destroy Karura Holy Land, the force which Chen was close to?” All of a sudden, Ye Liuli raised her head and hostilely glared at Gu Changge with her crimson, glassy eyes as she continued her interrogation. According to the rumors, Karura Holy Land’s annihilation was known to be caused by their attempt to keep Ye Chen’s whereabouts hidden, which in turn angered Gu Changge, who then unleashed devastation upon the holy land with one blow. She couldn’t fathom it.
“Ridiculous.” At that moment, Gu Changge’s eyes and intonation grew icy. “Is the purpose of your visit to interrogate me, Lady Ye? Am I even obliged to explain myself for stepping on an insignificant ant?”
At once, Ye Liuli’s face blanched as she panted. She subconsciously gripped the sword in her head as Gu Changge’s words echoed in her mind. [Indeed. To him, destroying Karura Holy Land is equivalent to stepping on an ant. What reason does he even need?]
“Is there anything else, Lady Ye? If not, you may leave,” Gu Changge blandly said as he was about to dismiss the visitors, after having planted a ‘prick’ in Ye Liuli’s heart. And as for its effectiveness, it all depended on his manipulation. Undoubtedly, regardless of its effectiveness, he would still have other ways as ultimately, everything was under his control.
