Once Gu Changge had finished setting everything up, he went back to the Upper Realm just as his Family was arranging to escort the bride over. Thus, he joined the escort party and arrived at the Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty in advance.
The Immortal Gu Family and the Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty were about to form a marriage alliance and it was an understandably momentous occasion. Thus, the Family Elders took things seriously. They headed deep into the Family’s territory and invited many of the Family’s Ancestors out to ensure that the wedding would go smoothly.
Right now, even the hidden experts who were Remnant Immortals quickly emerged from the Gu Family territory. They also got involved in Gu Changge’s wedding.
A raging undercurrent was coursing through the Upper Realm. Many Factions considered Gu Changge a thorn in their side. There was no way of being sure that no one would try to cause trouble during the wedding. Furthermore, two incredibly strong Forces were about to be united by marriage. This was something that affected all living beings of the Upper Realm. It felt as if they had a string wound tightly around their hearts, and it would break at the slightest tug.
In the eyes of the ordinary cultivators and citizens, Gu Changge had put in a tremendous amount of effort to eliminate the Eternal Overcast Scourge. He was even willing to stand against the various Forces in order to seek justice for everyone. Naturally, they genuinely wished the couple well and hoped that Gu Changge and Yue Mingkong would have a blissful life together.
The grudges between the Forces of the Upper Realm had nothing to do with them. However, everyone knew full well that if a fight did break out at this time, there was a high chance that all of the Upper Realm would be dragged into it as well.
If that happened, no one would be lucky enough to avoid it. Countless mountains, rivers, and territories would turn into disaster zones where lives would be lost.
“I’ve been waiting too long for this day to come.” Deep inside a palace within Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty, Yue Mingkong leaned against Gu Changge and spoke softly. She had a distant look in her eyes.
Before her regression, she had also longed for such a day to come, but in the end, what came was only Gu Changge’s betrayal.
In this life, Gu Changge was so very different that she suspected the life she thought was her past one had merely been an erroneous dream.
“I won’t make you wait anymore.” Gu Changge responded with a faint smile as he tucked her hair behind her ear.
“I’m so afraid that this is all a dream, and when I wake up, I would see that none of it had been real.” Yue Mingkong looked at him. Her clear, bright eyes were filled with adoration, though her words conveyed a sense of hesitance and insecurity.
Although she did marry Gu Changge in her previous life, the Gu Changge of that life had been extremely cold and aloof. He would not even touch her, let alone be gentle and caring towards her.
Moments like these made her feel even more anxious and apprehensive. One could say that her nervousness was mainly because her wedding was about to take place.
At other times, she was the Empress of the Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty and had power over a massive territory. She could make heads roll if she wanted to.
However, when she was in Gu Changge’s presence, she was simply a loving, thoughtful wife who wanted to help him by sharing his burdens.
“Why would this be a dream? Why are you kidding around at a time like this?” Gu Changge chuckled and squeezed her fair hand.
In reality, he knew that Yue Mingkong was thinking about the wedding that happened in the previous life where he had killed her.
It was why she was anxious now.
All he could do now was try to reassure her.
Yue Mingkong nodded and leaned against his chest. She slowly relaxed.
“Actually, Xianer came to see me recently…” Yue Mingkong spoke up as a thought occurred to her.
“Hm?” Gu Changge raised his eyebrows. [Knowing Yue Mingkong’s personality, she wouldn’t be bringing it up to me unless it was something important.]
“Why did she come to see you?” he asked softly.
Yue Mingkong looked at Gu Changge and said, “Xianer wants me to keep a closer eye on you. She’s afraid that you won’t be able to control your Demonic Heart, and that you might attack me during the wedding.”
“So, she told me that if I notice anything strange about you, I’m to tell her about it at once because she’s able to help you quell the Demonic Nature of your Demonic Heart.” All along, she knew that Gu Changge was the Successor of Demonic Arts and that he had a Demonic Heart.
However, that was not all. His identity was not as simple as just the Successor of Demonic Arts or someone with a Demonic Heart.
In her previous life, Gu Changge killed her because he needed to find a reasonable excuse to clear himself of suspicion.
Yue Mingkong was aware of this, so when she first came back to the start, she carefully had her guard up against Gu Changge.
Over time, she realised that his personality and behaviour were different from the person he was in their previous life. His attitude towards his Family, friends, and followers was completely different.
The Gu Changge she knew from her previous life felt like a cold-blooded man who only cared about his own benefit.
Yet, the current Gu Changge had a touch of warmth in his heart. Even so, just a touch of warmth was enough for her. After all, all she ever wanted was to have a place of her own in Gu Changge’s heart.
“Why would she say that to you out of the blue? Ever since the last time she met me, I got the feeling that she was hiding something from me.”
Gu Changge’s brows creased slightly. It was not because he thought Gu Xianer was being nosy or flattering herself.
He was simply worried that she would do something silly.
Back at Peach Village, she nearly dug out her Celestial Bone for the sake of using it to suppress the Demonic Nature of Gu Changge’s Demonic Heart.
“Looks like I need to find a time to clarify things with her, lest she starts doing something unnecessary.” Gu Changge shook his head.
Yue Mingkong shook hers as well. “I think Xianer might’ve seen something, so that’s why she’s suddenly so worried.”
She cultivated the Unrivalled Celestial Dynasty’s Art of Imperial Command. Though she could not exactly read people’s minds, she was able to discern their thoughts and emotions to a certain extent through little changes made.
When Gu Xianer brought this up with Yue Mingkong, the former’s heart was filled with worry. It was as if she knew that the things she said were bound to happen. This reminded Yue Mingkong of what it had been like in her previous life.
“Are you saying that Xianer came into contact with something involving the future?”
After hearing Yue Mingkong’s observation, Gu Changge began to realise what happened.
[No wonder it seems like Xianer had something she wanted to say but couldn’t the last time we met. She didn’t even seem to care all that much when she found out I’m the Successor of Demonic Arts.] He figured that she knew something even more terrifying was going to happen in the future.
Compared to that, his being the Successor of Demonic Arts was not a big deal.
[This means that the future Xianer saw is the same as the timeline which Yue Mingkong had regressed from. In the first place, why did I choose to kill them both in that timeline?] Gu Changge’s brows furrowed even more. He had a feeling that he had just come into contact with a startling truth.
If the System was related to him, then the many Fortuitous Ones, regardless of whether the one in this timeline or the others, would eventually stand against him.
Was it just a coincidence? Or, was everything fated from the start?
