This place could be called the Underworld. It was strewn with corpses, caskets, as well as broken weapons and armour. There were unmarked mounds everywhere. Small burial sites created by unknown individuals that had been around for eons.

The old man in white wandered around like a lonely Soul until he stopped in front of a burial mound and spoke up with a melancholic tone.

“Are you still alive, Tu Ying?” His voice was hoarse and croaky. He spoke in a language that was hard for the current generation to understand, but the deep sorrow in his voice was unmistakable.

Deep inside the barren stretch were numerous little burial mounds. There were no tombstones and no grass either. It was a nameless graveyard that was sorrowful to behold.

No one answered the old man in white’s question. He stood there alone and eventually let out a lamenting sigh. His silhouette looked even more desolate.

“I have guarded your graves for countless years now. Though I buried you all myself, I knew there would come a time when all of you returned. Tu Ying, you were the Lord’s most highly-regarded general. You were so strong. You could’ve even reached the highest heights. I don’t believe that you would’ve died in that battle. You must still be alive just like me, right?”

“What a fierce battle it had been…” The old man in white had a sorrowful look in his eyes as he placed his hand on the burial mound before him.

His name was Ming. He was now merely an old man guarding the graves here. The graves belonged to his friends, who fought alongside him in the past. He did not leave, not even after countless eras had gone by.

However, his true identity could be traced back to the Primordial Mythical Era, which was countless epochs ago.

He, like all his friends, had died in the Great War Against Heaven. His body had fallen apart, his weapon had been blown to pieces, and his armour had been caked with blood as he fell from the sky.

Yet, after countless years, he awakened alone and saw the tragic aftermath of that battle.

But, it seemed like a lot of time had passed. The entire place was broken and deserted. There was no sign of life. Everyone was dead. The bodies piled up high. Many ancient worlds fell and landed in this place.

He buried the bodies of his comrades and guarded their graves as he waited for the day when they awakened once more.

Alas, such hope waned over time. Even he did not know if it could ever come true.

Ming did not know why he had woken up after so much time had passed. He could still clearly recall being engaged in a fight against a fearsome being from the Boundless Fallen Ocean. Both of them died after their fierce fight.

It had been a devastating battle. Even the sky collapsed, and the world crumbled apart.

The horrifying wave of destruction slowly approached from the distance. Each time it moved, an entire area was annihilated. Everything fell apart and countless living beings died on the spot.

Even the mighty Primordial Gods and their Forces had fallen to it. Living beings as powerful and formidable as True Dragon and True Phoenix had also been rendered powerless. They all died in rapid succession.

They came together as an almighty force in an attempt to conquer Heaven. What a magnificent goal it had been. Alas, even at the risk of their lives in a siege that shook the universe, everything ended in vain

“Alas, the battle ended in defeat, and so many died…” Ming had a bitter smile on his wizened face that was fraught with the unwillingness to accept such an outcome.

He had awakened after countless years and did not have the means to understand what happened to the world after that battle.

What was the result of the Great War Against Heaven? How were the living beings of their world doing now?

“This is the last time I’ll be clearing your grave for you, my old friend. It’s time for me to leave. There are those from beyond the Boundless Expanse about to come upon this world again. Even though I’ve fallen into decline, I still have some fight left in me.” Ming sat on the ground for a very long time before he decided to get up and leave.

Before leaving, he let out a heavy sigh and stared into the ends of the universe in melancholy.

Even though he remained here all along, guarding the graves of his friends that lined the dry seabed of the Boundary Marker Sea, it did not mean he was unaware of what was happening in the world beyond.

In a flash, the old man in white left the Underworld and set off towards the shore of the Boundary Marker Sea.

He did not believe that everyone else besides him had died in that battle. There had been so many powerful Primordial Gods, as well as formidable Forces such as the True Dragons, the True Phoenixs, and the Qilins.

There were still traces of them and their bloodline was around till this day, which meant that the results of the battle were not as tragic as he thought.

Right now, a woman in white was waiting on the shore of the Boundary Marker Sea. When she saw the silhouette of the old man in white appearing above the sea, she cupped her hands respectfully and said, “Master, I’ve chased off all those in the surrounding area. The Boundary Marker Sea hasn’t been very peaceful lately. Perhaps something unusual could happen.”

The woman in white was tall, slender, and beautiful.

If Gu Changge had been around, he would have been a little stunned, for the woman in white bore a resemblance to Gu Xianer.

Naturally, he knew who she was. She was Gu Xianer’s biological younger Sister, Shen Xianer.

Back then, Gu Changge had personally gone to the Shen Family in the Heavenly Tide Realm to help Gu Xianer look for her biological parents. During the time they were in the Heavenly Tide Realm, Gu Xianer’s parents had given birth to her Sister, Shen Xianer.

Quite a number of things happened while Gu Changge was there. He took the chance to deal with Li Xiu, the returning War Immortal and ‘In-Law Fortuitous One’.

Things happened between Li Xiu and Shen Xianer due to a marriage agreement. Nevertheless, these things had taken place before the battle against the Eight Wastelands and Ten Domains.

The Heavenly Tide Realm was fairly near the Boundary Marker Sea. It could be considered the Upper Realm’s vanguard post during the battle against the Eight Wastelands and Ten Domains.

It had been many years since that battle, and the youthful girl had blossomed into a graceful woman.

The old man in white stepped across the waves and came ashore. All of his melancholy and nostalgia had melted away by now, leaving nothing but an icy sternness behind. He simply nodded in response without saying anything.

The woman before him was the disciple he took in when he left the seabed of the Boundary Marker Sea and roamed the world. Even in the eyes of the old man in white, there was a very strange reason why he took her in as his disciple. It was as if it were fated to be somehow.

The woman looked a lot like the peerless female War Immortal who led them into battle against the beings from the Boundless Expanse. The old man in white could not help but feel puzzled by that. Though it was hard to imagine, he wondered somewhat dazedly whether she was the reincarnation of that being.

Later on, he realised he had been overthinking it. Perhaps she merely shared a physical resemblance of that woman.

Although he had awakened many years later and was no longer at his peak, he was still a peerless being in this era. His level of cultivation was formidable. Even the World Principles of the Upper Realm could not subdue him. Therefore, by simply displaying a portion of his profound strength, he was able to take her in as his disciple and teach her diligently.

She was Shen Xianer, a prodigy from the Shen Family of the Heavenly Tide Realm who could be considered the top amongst her peers in terms of cultivation.

The old man in white was somewhat pleased when he realised that she was indeed a promising disciple. Her dedication and determination to pursue the Great Dao was unprecedented too.

Even after finding out that the Upper Realm was about to undergo the Great Purge, she remained steadfast without succumbing to hopelessness and despair the way other cultivators had.

It was rare to find someone with such mental fortitude. The old man in white was exceedingly pleased with her. Even though she was not the reincarnation of that woman, the resemblance in features and steadfastness of her Dao Hearts made him feel rather nostalgic.

He had witnessed the rise and growth of that being who seemed to have been born to resist the Great Purge.

Alas, she had been born at the wrong time. Perhaps she could have changed the fate of the world if she had been given more time.

“Let’s go. Everything is normal beneath the Boundary Mark Sea. The unusual activity isn’t related to the seabed itself. Perhaps, it’s the fragmented weapons scattered along the seabed that caused this strange activity…” Ming, the old man in white, pondered for a moment before shaking his head and leaving with Shen Xianer.

He planned on allowing Shen Xianer to return to her Family and bid her parents farewell. Afterwards, he plans on taking her to the Immortal Domain as he intended to personally head over to the Boundless Battlefield and take a look beyond.

Ming wanted to see just what kind of Great Purge was about to sweep over the world.

Shen Xianer followed closely behind Ming. Her gaze was steely. She knew what her Master was planning and showed no fear. She had always had a steadfast Dao Heart. A long time ago, she told her parents she would not be getting married. She was going to spend her life pursuing the Great Dao.

Her mysterious Master was an ancient being whose origins could not be traced and whose power was unfathomable. Shen Xianer had personally witnessed him stepping out of the depths of the Boundary Marker Sea. The fragmented ancient worlds that floated along all quietened beneath his feet. Even the ripples of Great Dao were silenced.

Such unimaginable power far exceeded the abilities of ordinary Immortals. Thus, after careful consideration, she agreed to be his disciple and cultivate alongside him.

The impending Great Purge would rock the entire world, and no living being would be spared. Nevertheless, her mysterious Master had decided to come out of the shadows and head over to the Boundless Battlefield, with a strong possibility that he would never return.

He wanted Shen Xianer to stay in the Heavenly Tide Realm instead of following him. However, Shen Xianer refused. She was unafraid of death. In fact, being able to head to the Immortal Domain and be a part of a battle of such scale seemed worthwhile in her eyes. Even in death, such a life was not one lived in vain.

Shen Xianer did not want to live in the shadow of her Older Sister, Gu Xianer. She had her own goals in life.

Due to the impending upheaval, similar events took place across all the lands.

Unusual scenes occurred abruptly in the depths of a Forbidden Area that had been sealed up for countless aeons now.

In one corner, a massive boulder split apart, and the layers of rock seemed to thunderously peel off.

Streaks of light and rainbows descended across the land. The Great Dao hummed as if auspicious beasts were about to come forth.

A thick layer of Celestial Mist encased the place, startling all the people inside the Forbidden Area.

In the end, a hazy silhouette stepped forth and roared towards the sky. The stars nearly fell as Chaos Qi rushed upwards and spread out towards the ends of the universe.

An old and dilapidated temple stood on a desolate mountaintop. Surrounded by wilderness, there was no hint of civilisation around. Yet, it was emitting a dazzling light that made the place seem like a sacred land. The surrounding mountain range was shrouded in the light as well.

The statue inside the old temple seemed to come alive. Cracks formed all over as a hazy silhouette of a someone step out from it.

Over by the entrance of a remote village, there lived a seemingly senile Old Daoist who frequently tricked the villagers. He said he was the reincarnation of a mighty figure from ancient times, and that if they were to give him some food, he would make them a Star King once he regained his cultivation.

None of the villagers believed him, though there were children who often listened to his stories and got tricked out of their sweets.

Right now, he had drunk himself into a stupor and was lying down on a large boulder by the village entrance. He stared up at the vast sky. Beneath his wayward hair, his eyes gleamed profoundly.

“A storm is coming…” The Old Daoist murmured to himself as he finished off the wine in his bottle and burped.

A passing villager heard the Old Daoist and shook his head as he commented, “He’s drunk and spewing nonsense again.”

That being said, the villager checked the sky anyway and noticed that the sky looked a little dark near the mountain. It looked as if the dark clouds gathering in the distance would soon be making their way over.

“Huh? There really is a storm coming. I have to hurry back and take in the clothes…”

The villager scratched his head. He did not think that the mad Daoist could actually see the change in the weather.

“I have to go.” the mad Daoist ignored the passing villager as he muttered to himself. He spat out a silk thread that turned into a small sword before expanding in the air.

“Farewell…” The Old Daoist leapt up the flying sword and flew off. His robe fluttered in the wind, and his usual unkempt appearance was replaced by an otherworldly air.

“What just happened…” The villager’s eyes widened in disbelief. He almost felt as if his eyes were tricking him. After a while, he snapped out of his daze and hollered, “An Immortal! He is an Immortal…”

Many villagers heard him and rushed over at once, but none of them believed what he told them. They thought he had gone mad. After all, how could that mad Daoist, who tricked children into giving him their sweets, be an actual Immortal? How could he have flown off on a sword? What kind of a joke was that?

The skies changed as the Great Purge was about to descend from the Boundless Expanse. Various things began to happen in different parts of the world.

A mountaintop glowed so brightly that the light could even be seen from three thousand kilometres away, and the Purple Qi shrouded the sky.

In an ancient well, a Golden Carp leapt out and rode off on the clouds after transforming into a Dragon.

The world was changing, and amidst the drastic changes in the environment, the subjects of ancient legends reappeared. Living beings from the void would slowly emerge, and worlds that had been hidden in the void would slowly began to reappear once more.
