The world was undergoing drastic changes, and the mighty cultivators were not the only ones who noticed. Even mortals were able to sense the changes.
The world was changing every single day. Some of the desolate mountains seemed to fill up with vitality overnight. New life was blooming as greenery blanketed the wilderness. New leaves sprouted from the old and withered trees, and the dried-up riverbeds were filled with water once more. Different signs cropped up in all the various universes.
“Something major is about to happen…”
Many people quietly discussed among themselves. Even though they did not know what was going on, they could sense that these were the omens of a significant event that was about to take place.
Even an ox that ploughed the fields in a remote mountain village began to speak like a Human before flying off on a cloud.
Things that seemed like the subject of ancient myths and records to ordinary mortals were happening in reality. Legends were coming into contact with reality. It also meant that the experts from ancient times were reawakening and returning to the world.
Even more astonishing things were happening with the ancient Forces. Figures suddenly appeared from the abandoned ancestral shrines and claimed to be their Founding Ancestors.
Figures began emerging from tombs and mausoleums as well. No one knew how long they had been slumbering.
Still covered in dirt, these figures pushed aside the lids of their caskets and sat up slowly, terrifying their descendants who were guarding the tombs.
As the world went through a great upheaval, every so often, the news of unbelievable incidents would spread far and wide.
Everyone began to realise that they might be able to resist the impending Great Purge from the Boundless Expanse.
It turned out that they did not truly understand this world after all. They did not even have a full understanding of the history of their own Families and Sects.
Some of the Immortal Forces were only now finding out that their Founders were actually the children of prominent beings in the past who had been tasked with the responsibility of passing down their legacies.
These Founders then faked their deaths and stood guard at the places where the prominent beings were residing and cultivating in isolation.
Even after all these years, their Founders were still alive. And now, their Founders communicated with them through the use of secret techniques and instructed them to prepare for the return of these prominent beings.
Incidents like these played out over and over again, and every single time it happened, the world would be shocked.
Many people gained a newfound understanding of their own Forces.
The World Principles were stable and balanced. The Immortal Domain and the Upper Realm had reunited as one as well, so both Realms could now contain even more powerful beings.
Even though the True World was not truly back to its peak yet, it was approaching the heights of the period before the Forbidden Epoch.
This would have certainly been the best era for all the cultivators and living beings if not for the Great Purge that would descend upon them in a hundred years.
They truly now had the chance to become True Daoists, Immortals, and maybe even Immortal Kings.
Many of the ancient beings who had resurfaced discovered this too. They did not expect to find themselves reawakening to such a glorious era.
Many of them had chosen to use various Forbidden Techniquess to hide their auras and avoid detection by falling into a deep slumber after the Forbidden Epoch. Some came from even more ancient eras and could be traced back to the most flourishing era before the Forbidden Epoch.
Upon reawakening, they immediately studied the present world and learnt of the many things that had taken place thus far.
A lot of them woke up after mysteriously sensing something, but they did not know what exactly happened.
Among them included ancient beings who had truly been a part of the cycle of reincarnation. They had reincarnated after the First Great Purge and retained most of their memories, so they were aware of the secrets of this world.
To them, there was no difference between the Immortal Domain and the Upper Realm. Both were a part of Mountains and Oceans True World.
“Not many in this era truly understand the Great Purge.”
“They don’t even know what happened. They don’t know that the First and Second Great Purges led to Mountains and Oceans True World being what it is now.”
“In their eyes, even the Forbidden Epoch is a bygone part of history that can’t be unearthed…”
“Yes. Yet, there are even more ancient eras and epochs before the Forbidden Epoch. Every era and civilisation had once reached the pinnacle of glory.”
“After so much loss, it is only natural for the later generations to be unaware of all these things.”
After understanding everything that happened thus far, some of these ancient beings could not help but feel wistful and melancholic.
Their words circled among the various Forces, and as a result, many cultivators and living beings suddenly realised that what seemed ancient to them could very well just be a fleeting moment in time to these truly ancient beings.
True antiquity stretched as far back as millions of epochs ago. Even the River of Time could not encompass everything.
These ancient beings knew the truth about the world, the reason for the impending Great Purge, and even the destruction of the past that had been buried in time. Naturally, some of the living beings who survived the Forbidden Epoch were shocked and uneasy when they became aware of the present situation.
“I didn’t think he would still be alive and is now in command over the present world…”
“The entire world had been destroyed in that battle. Everything had collapsed.”
They voiced their shock through quiet whispers. They had unexpectedly fallen into a deep slumber back then, and some did not even know how they managed to come back to life. They thought they had died during that catastrophe.
Many were supposed to have died, but now, after countless years, they found themselves awakening in random places without knowing where they were and what year it was.
The battle had been a devastating one. Many of them could still recall how the mighty Immortal Palace crumbled overnight.
“What a joke. He who destroyed world is now ruling it through the establishment of the Divine Empire and the Heavenly Court.”
“What gives a vicious Demon like him the right to do so?”
Some Remnants of the Immortal Palace found it difficult to accept this situation. Their eyes were filled with indignation and hatred.
Time was the mightiest force in existence, but it could not wipe away the resentment that festered within them.
Similar events occurred across the Immortal Domain, the Upper Realm, and even the Other Domain. The Fortuity of the True World continued to surge with each passing day.
Gu Changge observed everything in silence. He could see everything that happened, and none of it was unexpected to him.
The pressure that stemmed from the impending arrival of those from the Boundless Expanse kept increasing until even World’s Will revived and awakened the ancient beings hiding in the shadows.
One could say this represented the power that the Mountains and Oceans True World has. In the face of an insurmountable Great Purge, it could awaken the supreme experts that once roamed its land.
To ordinary living beings, there was no difference between the world and the universe. They could not sense that both possessed some semblance of sentience.
It had to be said that the cycles of reincarnation and the changed in the Heavenly Dao were a part of it, with the living beings and the True World always having a mutually dependent relationship.
Gu Changge had used this to lure out the ancient beings.
“The world has become a lot livelier lately. But, the highlight of the show hasn’t started yet. It’ll be coming up next.” Gu Changge smiled faintly as he looked up and stared at the edge of Mountains and Oceans True World.
He could see that the edge of the world had grown faint. It was as if a barrier was slowly dissipating and turning into a hazy, fragmented substance.
The foam-like substance covered the edge of Mountains and Oceans True World and acted as the barrier that separated it from the ripples of the Boundless Fallen Ocean.
However, the barrier was slowly collapsing.
The increasing influence of the Boundless Fallen Ocean was only an omen of the impending arrival of the Hunters. It was also a warning to all the living beings in Mountains and Oceans True World.
Gu Changge could see an ancient and mottled battleship charging through the crashing waves and dark fog. The ancient worlds were crushed under the pressure.
The ancient battleship seemed to be made out of a rare and precious Mother of Gold as it showed no sign of decay even after coursing through the Boundless Fallen Ocean for countless years.
The silhouettes standing on the battleship seemed like Immortal Demons who devoured the skies and suppressed the universe.
This impending doom was nothing compared to the past two Great Purges, but nevertheless, the present Mountains and Oceans True World could not compare to what it had been in the eras before the Great Purges.
For the moment, Gu Changge did not plan on doing anything.
The period of a hundred years had only just started. The Mountains and Oceans True World still had a chance to survive this ordeal.
“It’s time to move the other chess pieces…” Gu Changge muttered as his gaze deepened.
…
Over at the Immortal Domain, in the depths of the Endless Sea Clan.
The Immortal Kings had long since completed their discussion and decided to evacuate their Families. Right now, they were gathered inside an ancient and majestic palace.
The palace seemed to be made of bronze and was covered in countless inscriptions of divine scriptures. Every single word contained profound meanings that were difficult to decipher.
Apart from the Immortal Kings, the only other beings in this palace were Ao Ling and a middle-aged man with a dignified face and an intimidating bearing.
The middle-aged man wore a Golden Dragon robe. A golden crown rested on his head and Dragon Horns grew out of his forehead. He had a burly figure and his arms were covered in a layer of light Golden Dragon Scales.
All of the Immortal Kings of the Endless Sea Clan were deeply excited. They treated the middle-aged man with great respect as they could clearly sense the terrifying pressure that emanated from him and the horrifying oppression from his Bloodline.
Recently, following the emergence of this middle-aged man, an ancient palace also appeared in the depths of the Endless Sea Clan’s territory.
It was a Dragon Palace that once belonged to the Dragon Clan.
Just the Arrays of the palace alone could easily defend against attacks from Immortal Kings.
They were able to deduce the middle-aged man’s identity from the way Ao Ling addressed him.
He was Ao Teng, the Third Crown Prince of the Dragon Clan, the Son of the Founding Dragon Ancestor, and Ao Ling’s Older Brother. He possessed unfathomable cultivation.
All along, he had been in deep slumber within this palace, isolated from the world.
Recently, there had been an outburst of light deep within the Endless Sea Clan’s territory. The propitious vapours scattered far and wide and stunned everyone.
Ao Ling and the many Immortal Kings immediately rushed over and witnessed this scene.
“So much time has passed. I never thought I would rise again after so many years…” The middle-aged man had a complicated expression as he murmured. Even though he had awakened not too long ago, he had already adjusted to this era.
His Sister, Ao Ling, had filled him in on many things, and he stood for a very long time before reacting.
His Source had been damaged in the first Great War Against Heaven. His Father, the Founding Dragon Ancestor, had saved him and sent him to the Dragon Palace to recover.
He did not know what happened after that.
“I don’t know why Father sealed me up, only to reawaken after all this time.” Ao Teng murmured to himself. He did not understand his Father’s actions.
“Father left me a letter to tell me that my Brothers will reawaken in this era…” Ao Ling spoke up. Although she was thrilled to be reunited with her Brother, her heart was heavy. It felt as if an invisible web was caging them all in. The more they tried to investigate, the deeper they fell into its clutches. It was hard for them to escape.
She saw all the omens and changes that had been happening across the Immortal Domain and the Upper Realm lately, but she did not feel excited. On the contrary, she felt chills down her spine.
[Why are so many beings awakening now? Why does it feel like everything has been arranged from the start? Was there a terrifying mastermind hidden in the shadows somewhere who is behind everything?] Ao Ling dared not dwell on that thought too much. The more she delved into it, the more terrified she got.
“Since Father said so, he must have done it for a reason. Since I have awakened now, you don’t need to consider evacuating. Although danger approaches from the Boundless Fallen Ocean, it is not as horrifying as you all imagine it to be. I once followed Father into battle beyond the Boundless Expanse. I’ve fought against those who come to seize our world.”
Ao Teng’s thoughts soon settled down. He did not dwell on these things. Right now, the most important matter was the enemy who was about to invade Mountains and Oceans True World.
The Dragon Clan had lived in this world throughout all their generations. Why would they leave and set forth for other worlds if they had a choice in the matter?
“Mountains and Oceans True World is facing a unique situation right now. Many things happened after the Great War Against Heaven. That being personally brought an end to an epoch, burying that period in darkness…” Ao Ling said with a complicated expression.
She had not informed Ao Teng of these matters in great detail yet.
The Great War Against Heaven was something that took place far too long ago. Even the Immortal Kings here had never heard of it.
