Since an expert lurked in the shadows, Xu Hei ignored this guy and fled.

Xu Hei sped up to half his speed and gained some distance, his top speed without Earthen Motion.

Mu Lei winced. “Is he really going to escape?”

Mu Lei was torn with anxiety. He hoped the snake would pull some trick and that would get him to stall for more time.

Xu Hei didn’t care for that, just escaping at full speed and not conforming to his wishes, foiling his plans.

“Stop!”

Mu Lei triggered the Thunder Seal, blowing up a huge crater ahead, but Xu Hei was gone.

“Damn it!”

Mu Lei gnashed his teeth and used Earthen Motion to the max, to follow after him.

Picking up speed helped Mu Lei slowly catch up, at the expense of True Qi.

“Damn animal, you won’t escape! Stop running away and fight! I can kill you without using a single magic treasure.”

Mu Lei raged, uncaring if Xu Hei understood or not.

Xu Hei hid a smirk, planning on fleeing for as long as the other kept his speed to half.

But now he was fully committed to the chase. This changed things.

“You’re asking for it!”

Xu Hei halted by using Earthen Motion to remove his inertia, and then he charged right at Mu Lei at twice the human’s speed!

“What?!”

Mu Lei cried out. His only saving grace was that he activated the Thunder Seal, sending a lightning bolt and blowing up a crater.

Boom!

The two were so close that the attack ended up affecting both Xu Hei and Mu Lei. He was blown away and coughing blood as he slammed the scorched dirt.

The hole they were in was ten meters deep.

Mu Lei looked over at once.

As the dust cleared, Xu Hei appeared standing there, somewhat scorched, but covered in a golden shield. It was the Golden Shield Talisman.

It was clear that even that couldn’t block all of the lightning bolt’s power.

Mu Lei’s face sank, scrambling to trigger the Thunder Seal.

Xu Hei opened his maw and a black ball of flame hurtled towards the human.

Fireball!

Xu Hei had transformed this basic magical art into something freakishly strong. The air warped as the black flame passed, and even the earth turned into lava. The flames of hell were personally here to take Mu Lei’s life.

“What demonic art is this?”

Mu Lei gasped in shock and took out a jade pendant.

“Attraction!” Xu Hei’s eyes were bloodshot, using his skill to snatch the pendant.

Mu Lei felt a mighty pull on his hand and the pendant slipped out of his hand.

It all happened so fast, Mu Lei had no time to even register the loss of the pendant, for the Fireball was there to meet him in its full fiery embrace.

Boom!

The explosion sent black flames high into the air and melted the earth behind Mu Lei. As for the target, he screamed in agony.

His screams brought no delight to the snake, turning grave.

[That means he’s still breathing!]

Xu Hei sensed that the jade pendant was crushed and formed a thin veil covering Mu Lei.

But the pendant’s position was shifted a bit, making the shield miss part of Mu Lei.

His left side was trapped outside, burned to nothing.

Xu Hei was quick to use Attraction which resulted in this slight deviation, otherwise, Mu Lei would’ve been safe and sound behind that shield.

“Curses! So close!”

Xu Hei sighed to himself. He’d been training Attraction for just three days. He was sure he could’ve pulled that off perfectly if he had a week of practice.

This was no time for second thoughts, however, and Xu Hei burrowed into the earth after taking Mu Lei’s storage bag.

Only three seconds later, an old man covered in a bloody light landed in the crater and saw the severely damaged Mu Lei. He helped him up with a flat look.

“It’s all my fault for not taking better care of you.” Chen Daoling gave Mu Lei a pill and placed him on his back.

“Know that I will avenge you!” Chen Daoling flashed and slipped into the dirt to give chase.

His Divine Sense surpassed the hundred-meter range and locked on the fleeing black snake.

Xu Hei knew the other found him, yet his own Divine Sense couldn’t reach his pursuer, only feeling the freezing bloodlust as their senses clashed.

Xu Hei’s divine sense reached ninety meters, which meant the other had to have it even farther.

“For him to have such a strong Divine Sense, just what cultivation is this?” Xu Hei’s mind raced.

It was beyond what a late Qi Refining cultivator could use, meaning the other could only be an old monster with stagnant cultivation at the peak Qi Refining Stage.

Why not a Foundation Establishment? Xu Hei knew he wasn’t that important to deserve such a being’s attention.

“I underestimated you. I gave my disciple many protective magic treasures, even warned him not to look down on you, but he still came close to dying.

“Spare yourself from dying and just give up.” Chen Daoling sent through his Divine Sense.

Xu Hei didn’t even register his lame threat, focusing his all on using Earthen Motion and body to flee at top speed rather than scorn the human’s poor attempt at getting him to surrender.

“You know Earthen Motion? And quite fast too.” Chen Daoling gasped.

In his many years as a cultivator, Chen Daoling mastered Earthen Motion to the point none could match him.

Even Xu Hei could feel the distance between them shortening at an alarming rate.

Speed wasn’t the only issue now, for he was burning through True Qi way too fast.

The most he had right now was enough to use magical arts to light a candle.

Xu Hei’s Divine Sense finally got to lock on the pursuer, an old Daoist carrying Mu Lei.

Xu Hei’s eyes flashed and turned for a valley.

The gap kept shrinking, from ninety meters to fifty meters.

As he ran, he came face to face with granite.

Unable to go through it, he jumped out of the ground and rushed up the cliff.

Chen Daoling was a mere second behind, squinting at the rock valley he was in, cliffs on both sides.

Boom!

The explosion above sent the valley shaking and filled it with smoke. Countless rocks hurtled down, coming straight at Chen Daoling to flatten him.

“Damn it!”

Chen Daoling winced and rushed to dodge, but there were too many of them, coming from all directions and sealing his escape.
