Su Junyu’s greeting had the other two turn their attention to Wang Qi. Under the guest’s stare, Wang Qi took a stiff seat across from Su Junyu and passed over his current problems.

Great Bookworm Wang didn’t spend his last three months eating, sleeping, and taking it out on the small demons. As an idealist and pursuer, he rose above the hobbies of a mundane life. He’d spend his days learn about many things. With his mind set on Myriad Arts Sect, his inclination was mathematical, naturally. Su Junyu happened to have the highest math skills among all the people Wang Qi knew, and often dropped by for a lesson.

Su Junyu looked over the issues. “Mmm, not a bad progress. Oh, this move, now this is a serious problem.”

Wang Qi looked at Su Junyu’s finger and nodded. “I never got to make Army Formation and World Law to link with each other.”

Su Junyu gestured with his finger. “Try it like this, then follow with this…”

The guest was around twenty years old, smiling at Wang Qi, “Who might you be, Junior Brother?”

“Let me introduce you. He is the future Myriad Arts Sect genius disciple, maybe a straight up true disciple, Wang Qi. He’s my little brother now. “Senior Sister spoke and pointed at the man in cyan robe. “He is Second Brother—alright, alright, no need for a hissy fit. As I was saying, Zi Xiaopeng here is a fellow classmate of mine and Senior Sister Xiang’s. Back in the Leyang Immortal Institute, I was always the best with him always coming up second, hence Second Brother. He’s Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s recently promoted true disciple since two year ago.”

Wang Qi said. “Senior Brother, you’re better than Senior Sister Xiang? From what I know she became Scorching Metal Valley’s true disciple since she joined.”

Xiang Qi covered her face. “Scorching Metal Valley has a low passing score, the last of the five best.”

Zi Xiaopeng explained. “I had it rough back then. Mendel clan’s Gene, Mo clan, and Lin clan, all had their clansmen vying for top sect positions. Then there’s Heavenly Spirit Range taking in a whole three true disciples. There were hardly any spots left.”

Su Junyu said, “That’s exactly why I hope you’d stay away from Myriad Arts Sect this admission trial. Bernoulli family is a natural when it comes to calculations, with their disciples strong enough to contend with Mendel clan and Mo clan. The three mighty clans rely on having Unfettered in their ancestry. Just look at Bernoulli family, who has a whole lot more.”

Zi Xiaopeng gasped. “The kid knows Bernoulli family has a candidate aiming for the admission and still wants to go to Myriad Arts Sect? Even aim for Unfettered?”

Su Junyu said, “This is vaulting ambition-, Wang Qi, this one’s wrong. White Marsh True Array Divider’s guard in this situation isn’t like that. Drop the hand three inches.”

Wang Qi was feeling awkward. He’d been training himself silly these days. He was being defensive around Zi Xiaopeng and he took a defensive stance.

Xiang Qi asked, “You’ve been on guard since the start. What’s up?”

Wang Qi came clean. “My ring’s old man said he sensed ancient cultivation’s mystical aura on him.”

Ancient cultivation and modern cultivation had opposing philosophies, making ‘guarding against ancient cultivators’ a reasonable excuse.

Zi Xiaopeng started. “Antinomy states that’s true and false. But the law of excluded middle…”

Su Junyu couldn’t take it. “It has nothing to do with any of those!”

“Myriad Arts Sect’s obsessive-compulsion disorder.” Zi Xiaopeng quipped. “Per law of excluded middle, I can only disagree.”

Wang Qi was dumbstruck. He couldn’t make any sense of this guy’s pretentious talk. Xiang Qi explained. “Ignore his nonsense. He means ‘my spiritual power has ancient cultivation’s traits.'”

Wang Qi said, “Five best true disciple train in mesial arts?”

Mesial art, a term referring to those amended ancient system mental art to access the breath of the world. it wasn’t their official name, but Su Junyu and Xiang Qi always showed disdain every time it was mentioned. The mesial arts weren’t amazing that was fure.

Zi Xiaopeng looked smug. “Fits perfectly with antinomy…”

    Xiang Qi translated, “Pretty much.”

“I major in an adapted ancient cultivation method, yes, but one with perfect adaptation. Myriad Arts Sect’s Swift Computation, Divine Hexagram Computation, Book of Geometry are all based on ancient cultivation, right? My Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s Three Clarities Heart Art is no different.”

Wang Qi asked, “Three Clarities Heart Art? The Arts Archive has all the mainstream mental arts, so why didn’t I see it there?”

Zi Xiaopeng explained, “The mental art is only a dozen years old and unrefined to be published with the rest. The ancient cultivation’s Three Clarities True Art had been dug up from a ruin over a hundred years ago. A few decades ago, Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s Senior, used it to raise the issue of ‘triadic self,’ to discover that the Three Clarities True Art abided by this principle, taking a bold decision in amending it.” Zi Xiaopeng slapped his chest. “Not to brag, but I’m one of the first to train in the Three Clarities Heart Art.”

Wang Qi asked, “What’s triadic self?”

Xiaopeng explained. “A human’s mind has three states. The lowest, containing all notions and being innate, is known as ‘primal’ or ‘jade clarity.’ The highest is ‘morality’ or ‘superclarity.’ While whatever ‘I’ can think or control is known as ‘spiritual jewel’ or ‘upper clarity.’ The Three Clarities Heart Art is thus…”

Wang Qi figured it out at last. [That’s Freud’s three levels of consciousness!]

[But what’s with this bad timing? Based on Earth’s history, the theory should’ve popped around Lord of Arithmetic Poincare and Arbiter of Arithmetic Hilbert’s era. That’s centuries ago, not just a couple decades.]

In the academic circles, psychoanalysis wasn’t seen a a natural science, but a branch of psychology. As far as Wang Qi knew, Divine Province had primitive knowledge in social sciences, and that mostly derived from their pursuits in mathematics. Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s research in human mind also began from psychophysics and topological psychology.

Zi Xiaopeng noticed Wang Qi was silent and assumed his brilliance had something to do with it, speaking with even more pride, “Junior Brother Wang, according to the law of excluded middle, you carefully chose your sect. But when looking at it from the principle of reasoning’s point of view, Myriad Arts Sect is a bad choice. I sense the air of Evolution Chart on you, so how about you join Radiant Divinity Pavilion instead? Radiant Divinity Pavilion’s passing score should be decently placed this year around.”

Su Junyu snapped, “Zip it! Don’t go stealing Myriad Arts Sect’s seeds!”

Author note: the first cameo is here! The news he brought is closely tied to Wang Qi’s future path.
