Ni Chen was a tall man with straight eyebrows that gave him a composed and serene expression. Clad in a pristine white robe, he entered the hall nonchalantly and arrogantly, with his hands clasped behind him.

His followers followed suit, exuding an imposing aura that caused the leaders of various Forces to furrow their brows. It was evident that this Force should not be underestimated – there were several Quasi-Immortal Emperors among them. In the current The Prosperous Dao True World, the known numbers of Quasi-Immortal Emperors could be counted; yet Ni Chen had a few such powerful figures under his command.

Even so, many harboured even more resentment towards Ni Chen after remembering all those, friends and Family, that had been sacrificed during that great war. Not only did he fail to provide any assistance during that fierce conflict, but he also instigated internal strife and raised troops in the rear.  With such thoughts in their minds, they were determined to impeach Ni Chen and force him to abdicate.

Ni Chen remained indifferent; his expression unchanged. Though he noticed the reactions of those present in the hall, he paid them no mind. He had anticipated such a scene when he seized the Prosperous Dao True World, knowing that it would provoke public outrage. However, he did not expect the war to end so swiftly, nor did he anticipate his plan to seize the True World being thwarted by an unforeseen calamity.

Nevertheless, as long as he was alive, there was still a chance.

“What could be the reason for summoning me to this place through an official decree? Unless there is an urgent matter at hand, I would request permission to depart as I’m currently at a crucial moment in my breakthrough. Undoubtedly, amongst all pressing affairs, prioritizing my cultivation is of utmost importance. Otherwise, the Alliance Leader would punish me for my lack of progress when he returns to the Prosperous Dao True World.” Ni Chen smiled faintly and gazed directly at Gu Wuwang and Ming, who were in the hall while expressing his annoyance at being interrupted during his seclusion.

Since becoming the Chosen One, Ni Chen had been doing his best to portray himself as the rightful heir and Successor of Gu Changge. Many of his actions, consciously or unconsciously, mimic those of Gu Changge. Even his current posture and tone of voice mirrored that of his predecessor.

This method had proven effective for a very long time, as it instilled fear in others and reminded them of Gu Changge’s power. Consequently, this only served to further bolster Ni Chen’s arrogance, as he boldly proclaimed Gu Changge’s absence in the Prosperous Dao True World would grant him power over it, blatantly disregarding Gu Wuwang and other Dao Realm ancient cultivators.

However, this time, Ni Chen’s statement only served to deepen the frowns of those present. They sensed the complexity of the situation, as Gu Changge was the one who personally appointed Ni Chen the Chosen One.

Yet, no one could ever predict Gu Changge’s true intentions, and the consequences of misjudging them would be catastrophic.

Ming, who heard Ni Chen’s words from across the hall, smiled faintly before Wang Wushang could even respond. His cloudy eyes seemed to regain clarity as if he could see through something. His tone carried a hint of interest as he commented, “Oh? Did something go wrong with your secluded training, Chosen One? Why can I sense that your foundation is much more unstable than before? Or, is it just my imagination?”

Gu Wuwang, the Tranquil Primal Sage, and others wore puzzled expressions as they observed Ni Chen. As beings who had reached the Dao Realm, they could slightly detect that something was amiss with Ni Chen by just relying on their keen senses. His aura appeared to be a lot weaker than before, and even his radiance as a Quasi-Immortal Emperor seemed to have dimmed significantly.

Everyone wondered what had happened to him during this time.

Ni Chen’s heart quivered, as he had taken great care to conceal his aura on his way to the hall. He had not expected these sly old foxes to be able to detect it. However, Ni Chen was not going to be intimidated. He maintained a calm expression and replied nonchalantly, “During the recent invasion by foreign Forces, I tried pushing myself to reach the Immortal Emperor Realm. I was trying my best to condense Immortal Emperor Dao Fruit. I thought that would help me to play a more significant role in this battle.”

“I never expected my impatience to cause problems during my breakthrough, resulting in damage to my Source. I’ve been trying to recuperate since then. If it were not for the official degree, I would still be resting and recuperating at this moment…” With such an explanation, he also provided the reason why he had chosen to stay behind instead of assisting in the war earlier. However, those in the hall were not fully convinced. Such explanations might be enough to deceive ordinary individuals, but not these wise and perceptive leaders.

“Oh? So that’s what happened. The Chosen One’s dedication is truly admirable.” Ming remarked with a light smile, his tone laced with ridicule and mockery.

Ni Chen’s expression remained unchanged as he asked, “So, why have all of you summoned me here?” As he spoke, he could not help but glance in another direction in the hall.

His eyes fell upon a girl with a cold expression, who stood silently without uttering a word. She wore a simple white dress that accentuated her flawless features, and her black hair cascaded like a waterfall. Her eyes were as clear as jade, giving her an ethereal and otherworldly appearance.

While everyone in the hall engaged in conversation, she remained silent. She seemed as though she existed outside the Mortal Realm, yet at the same time, she was still at the centre of attention.

Truth be told, Ni Chen had already noticed this frosty girl next to Gu Wuwang and Ming as soon as he entered this magnificent hall. Though he had never encountered her before, he had already guessed her identity.

She was Gu Xianer, Gu Changge’s Cousin. Unlike Shen Xianer, she possessed great Fortuity and was deeply cherished by Gu Changge.

Ni Chen had intentionally studied the events that had unfolded in the Upper Realm and he was aware of Gu Xianer’s extraordinary status. She held a very special position In Gu Changge’s heart.

“We have summoned you here today because there is something of utmost importance that we must share with you.” While Ni Chen was observing Gu Xianer, trying to figure out the reason for her presence here, Gu Wuwang, the Deputy Alliance Leader, who had remained quiet until now, finally spoke. His words carried a sense of great authority, immediately causing all the leaders to cease their whispered conversations amongst each other.

Ni Chen, though slightly taken aback, maintained a smile on his face as he asked, “Senior Wuwang, what is it that you wish to inform me?”

“This is a letter, which is a joint impeachment written by leaders from various Forces.” Gu Wuwang simply waved his hand, and a stream of golden light flew out of the large sleeve of his robe. It transformed into a golden letter, pulsating with a majestic aura.

As the golden letter unfolded in the air, the words, shining like radiant stars, became visible, emanating an inexplicable power.

Ni Chen was shocked, but he managed to maintain a calm demeanour as he quickly scanned the contents of the letter. His followers behind him also peered over, their expressions growing increasingly grim and unpleasant as they read the letter.

The letter detailed numerous accusations against Ni Chen, and it demanded his abdication as the Chosen One of the Heavenslayers Alliance. Each leader had left a trace of their aura in the letter.

If the letter were to take effect, it would be disseminated throughout the worlds and universes. By then, Ni Chen would also lose his position as the Chosen One, along with the power and authority that came with it. Those who followed Ni Chen and stood by him through thick and thin would also lose their power, status and access to various resources.

In other words, this one impeachment letter had the potential to completely ruin them.

“This is absolute nonsense. The Chosen One is personally appointed by the Alliance Leader himself. You cannot impeach him or force him to abdicate!”

“Exactly! The Alliance Leader is the only one who has a say in this matter! Who are the rest of us to decide who should or shouldn’t be the Chosen One?”

“This impeachment letter is useless, and all these claims in it are baseless. The Chosen One is the hope for the future of our The Prosperous Dao True World! He has dedicated his life to cultivating for the sake of this world!”

“This is going against the Alliance Leader’s command!”

Before Ni Chen could speak, some Elders from various Forces among his followers immediately voiced their dissatisfaction and protested.

The leaders of various Forces in the hall wore mocking expressions on their faces, yet they remained silent. Although this letter contained their auras, it was mostly fuelled by the existence of the three powerful Dao Realm ancient cultivators, who were the current strongest in the Prosperous Dao True World. Anyone who dared to oppose them would be mercilessly crushed.

“Seniors, are you planning to make Lady Xianer the new Chosen One?” Ni Chen’s expression darkened as he looked at Gu Xianer, who remained expressionless. He could not help but speculate if she was the source of this impeachment. Perhaps she had fought against the foreign invaders on the Boundless Battlefield only for the sake of gaining fame and prestige, driven by her desire to claim the title of the Chosen One.

If Ni Chen had successfully gained control of the Prosperous Dao True World, he would not have cared about this position. However, in his current situation, he desperately required resources to heal his wounds and erase the damage done to his Dao Fruit. Losing his status as the Chosen One would also mean losing access to the many resources he had acquired in the past and losing the Fortuity bestowed upon him by the Heavenslayers Alliance. It would no doubt be a devastating blow to Ni Chen.

Gu Wuwang shook his head and calmly explained, “This is not our plan, but the intention of everyone in the Heavenslayers Alliance.” The implication of his words was clear. They intended to make Gu Xianer the new Chosen One.

“My position of the Chosen One was personally arranged by the Alliance Leader. Are you all intending to defy him by doing this?” Ni Chen asked in a deep voice, suppressing the anger in his heart. He had a feeling that he might truly lose this position today. That would also mean it would be very difficult for him to regain his foothold again.

Gu Wuwang continued to shake his head and calmly said, “The Alliance Leader has already made it clear that the title of the Chosen One is for the virtuous. When the time comes for change, it should naturally change. Moreover, if Lady Xianer becomes the Chosen One, I believe that it would bring great delight to the Alliance Leader. After all, he had originally reserved this title for her.”

His words were clear enough, leaving no room for misunderstanding. Ni Chen’s face suddenly contorted in anger. He clenched his fists, his once calm and composed demeanour had vanished.

Gu Wuwang’s last sentence struck Ni Chen’s mind like a bolt of lightning. The fog that had previously obscured his understanding seemed to dissipate, revealing a newfound clarity. It was as if a revelation had dawned upon him.

The faces of the followers behind Ni Chen immediately paled. The Deputy Alliance Leader’s words were spoken with such conviction that it left no room for doubt. It was a conclusion that had to be accepted.

“In that case, let us abide by the rules and engage in a fair fight. If Gu Xianer can defeat me, then I don’t mind handing over the title of Chosen One. If she can’t even defeat me, how can she convince everyone that she is worthy of this title?” Ni Chen had completely cooled down, his expression turning cold as he locked eyes with Gu Xianer.

Earlier, out of politeness, he had referred to her as Lady Xianer, but now he was addressing her by her first name.

Gu Wuwang and the others furrowed their brows, sensing the chilling intent in Ni Chen’s gaze. It seems like he had already made up his mind to kill her, capitalising on his cultivation as a Quasi-Immortal Emperor for years while Gu Xianer was still stabilising her cultivation.

“Fine. If you wish to resolve this through a fair fight, then so be it.” Gu Xianer, who had remained silent all this time, agreed without hesitation before Gu Wuwang and the others could speak.

She was always straightforward and disliked unnecessary complications things. Moreover, she had great confidence in her own abilities. Though she appeared cold and reserved to others, deep down, she was proud and self-assured. Apart from Gu Changge, she does not believe she had a peer who could surpass her. She was that certain of her strength.

“Very well.” Ni Chen responded, a sneer creeping into his eyes when he heard Gu Xianer’s immediate acceptance. Although he had injured his Dao Fruit, and his Soul, he was once the most powerful person in the Deep Control Clan. Despite Gu Xianer’s amazing talents, she had only recently reached her current cultivation realm. There was no way she could possibly be his match.

[If you wish to take my position, then you must pay the price for it!] Ni Chen thought contemptuously as his murderous intent grew stronger.

Within the Heavenslayers Alliance, there were numerous training grounds. With the assistance of the several Dao Realm ancient cultivators, they could easily support a battle between two Quasi-Immortal Emperors.

As soon as Gu Xianer and Ni Chen stepped onto the battlefield, they unleashed their most powerful techniques against each other.

The energy fluctuation of the Quasi-Immortal Emperor Realm surged like cosmic waves, traversing through Spacetime. The chaotic energy soared into the Heavens, enveloping the universe. Even the mere ripple of their battle sent shivers down the spines of the leaders from various Forces.
