Chapter 340, Stone Lions?
by SilavinTranslator: Silavin
Su Bai walked through the Tribe, planning to inspect if anything had been overlooked.
The rainy season would now arrive in five days, and he wanted to check if anything had not been properly prepared.
Su Bai walked to the building in the central area, looking up at the four-story building and nodding with satisfaction.
With his hands behind his back, he said, “It’s remarkable to see a cement house here.”
Although he had planned it all himself, seeing it in person still felt wonderful.
Actually, building a four-story cement house in a Primitive Tribe was quite an achievement, and it covered a large area too.
Building this four-story building was not easy. Many problems arose during construction, which Su Bai personally followed up on and resolved.
Taking over ten days to complete was quite remarkable, and four stories was already quite tall.
“So tall! Shaman, won’t this cement house collapse?” Yu Ying exclaimed.
The fox eared girl was the most surprised by this sight, seeing such a tall building for the first time, and it was all made of stone.
Of course, she was also worried. After all, stacking stones so high must be dangerous if they fell, right?
“Unless something unexpected happens, it won’t collapse,” Su Bai smiled.
By unexpected, he meant things like tectonic movement, deliberate demolition, and other external forces. Otherwise, with cement and stone, this building would not easily collapse.
He had strictly tested the grass ash cement, and even after air-drying, it would not dissolve when exposed in water. Thus, he knew unless subjected to particularly violent forces, the cement would not crumble. Also, stone being stone, was tough and the main material used for the building.
“How amazing! Can we move in after a couple of days?” Yu Ying’s pink eyes kept blinking.
She was already looking forward to moving in, wanting to experience what living in a cement house felt like.
“Yes, once the windows are installed, we can move in.” Su Bai said.
Now, all the cement houses just needed glass installation, plus a couple more days of drying. After that, they would be habitable.
Although the interior could not be plastered like back on Earth, it was still better than wooden houses.
“Great! We can finally move in!” Yu Ying happily swished her pink fox tail.
Su Bai walked around the central area building once, then went inside to look.
As soon as he entered, he felt a familiar sensation that wooden houses could never provide.
He looked up at the ceiling, nodded with satisfaction, and muttered, “Yes, this is the feeling…”
Cement houses gave its inhabitants a sense of safety and stability, something which Teepees and wooden houses could not compare to. The difference was like Heaven and Earth.
“It’s so big! Living here must be very comfortable!” Yu Ying excitedly walked back and forth in the hall.
The first floor did not have many rooms, just four in total, with the rest being an enormous hall.
“Yes, it will definitely be better than wooden houses.” Su Bai had also missed this feeling. [It sure has been a long time since I felt like this…]
“Shaman, is this large space in the middle left for people to use as a fire pit?” Yu Ying asked.
She thought the central space was too wide, wider than their current wooden house. In fact, this was not even counting the rooms.
“Haha…” Su Bai laughed heartily, shaking his head. “Wouldn’t that be wasteful? Using such a large space just for a fire pit would just be plain wrong.”
Actually, he planned to use the first floor as a department, a place to handle daily work, similar to an office back on Earth.
This department would mainly be responsible for counting and distributing hunted game, arranging work schedules, and handling various Tribe matters. It would be called the Administrative Department.
Those people would all work here, while Su Bai and others would be on the second floor and above, so it would not affect their lives.
He had originally planned to build a separate building for this department, but currently there were not any extra buildings available, and it was more important to house more people than to build office buildings.
Moreover, he would not live on the first floor, only on the third floor. So, the first floor being used for such matters was fine for him.
“Then, what will this space be used for?” Yu Ying asked curiously.
“You’ll know when the time comes.” Su Bai smiled, then asked. “Did you take the drawings I gave you to Gu Mu?”
A few days ago, he had given the fox eared girl several drawings, including designs for various furniture like beds.
The tables and chairs were also differentiated. There was Su Bai’s exclusive desk and chair for his second-floor office. There were also office desks and chairs for the Administrative Department on the first floor, plus furniture for the other houses.
The rest were designs for other furniture – like wardrobes and benches.
“I’ve passed them all over. Uncle Gu Mu said everything would be made before we move into the house.” Yu Ying said immediately.
“Great. There’s less than ten days left, so it needs to be rushed.” Su Bai nodded.
Only when all these things were moved into the cement house would it truly feel like a proper home.
Perhaps, what Su Bai needed now was exactly this feeling of home, which was much better than living in a wooden house.
Back on Earth, being an orphan meant he never had the feeling of home. However, now, coming to this Primitive Tribe as a Shaman, with a Shaman Priestess, he naturally wanted to have that feeling of home.
“Yes! I’ll go urge them right away!” Yu Ying responded immediately.
The fox eared girl was also getting anxious. Who would not want to quickly move into their cement house and experience what this new house feels like?
[The curtains that came from the System can be put up now. After that, we can lay down the carpets,] Su Bai thoughtfully reflected.
When these items came from the System before, this was the first thing he thought of.
With these decorations, the cement house would look more like a home. Otherwise it would just be empty walls.
[If only we had murals or paintings to hang, then these walls would not look so monotonous…] Su Bai thought to himself.
As for things like vases, he was not worried. They just needed to keep a few ceramic pieces for themselves and add some fresh flowers.
The rooms could also have more vases, and larger ceramic pieces for display.
[Should we make two stone lions?] Su Bai suddenly thought of how ancient wealthy households always had two stone lions at their entrance.
Having two stone lions would make it look more impressive, and more like the residence of the Tribe’s leader.
[You know what? let’s do it,] Su Bai made up his mind.
“Shaman, what are you thinking about?” Yu Ying asked. She suddenly noticed the Shaman had gone quiet, his black eyes staring at the doorway without saying a word.
“Nothing much, I just thought of something good.” Su Bai smiled.
“What is it? Something to eat?” Yu Ying asked expectantly.
“Hahaha… You are always thinking of food. This is even better than food,” Su Bai heartily chuckled.
