Chapter 56, Bumping Into Snake Catchers
by SilavinTranslator: Tamon
Mammoths were migratory pack demons, stripping the vegetation in one area before moving to the next.
This group had eleven mammoths, with the weakest being a calf at the 3rd layer of the Awareness Stage.
Xiao Hei sent thirty small lizards in total, biding his time.
A calf ran to a lizard and sniffed it with its trunk.
Xu Hei hesitated, since killing the weak calf was sure to enrage the herd.
His targets were the two strongest specimens. Getting one was enough, so Xu Hei exercised patience.
Whoosh~
Xu Hei jolted at the sound and focused on looking through the lizard’s eyes.
Ten people appeared in the distance, bearing Swift Talismans on their legs to vault through the air, landing on trees or mounds.
The group surrounded the mammoths.
They wore the same style of clothing, green with white clouds engravings; Unfettered Sect disciples. Their cultivation ranged between mid and late Qi Refining Stage.
Their leader was a snake catcher, wearing the trademark python robes.
He was young, around sixteen of age, tall and thin. He had a childish face, but his Foundation Establishment cultivation begged to differ.
Hua Yuntian was one of Xuan Yangzi’s direct disciples, the least experienced but bearing an amazing talent, having the rare high water spirit root and reaching Foundation Establishment at the tender age of fifteen.
Such a feat was a rarity in the entire Chu Kingdom.
The mammoths’ eyes went bloodshot and blew their trumpets. The mothers protected their young.
“Ha-ha, there’s so many mammoths! Senior Uncle Hua spoke true!”
“Their tusks are worth a fortune, perfect for carving jewelry for Augury Sect’s girls. They’re sure to like it.”
The guys were thrilled, disregarding the mammoths’ lives and only valuing their tusks.
The tusks were a rare luxury in the cultivation world, perfect for making jade magic treasures. Many cultivators loved them.
Hua Yuntian had a smug grin. “Take formation! Don’t let any of them escape!”
“Yes!”
The Unfettered Sect disciples stuck flags into the ground. A faint aura spread out that covered the herd.
The sharp mammoth leader charged behind it, shuddering the earth and slamming its sharp tusk into the barrier.
Hum~
The barrier warped as cracks appeared. Three other male mammoths followed suit, shaking the foundation of the array with their stomping while slamming their tusks at the barrier. It was about to give.
“Die.”
Hua Yuntian huffed and flung a spear into the leading mammoth’s back, sinking a whole three meters in and making it scream.
The other people threw their own spears. Dealing with large creatures, swords lost their advantage and they had to resort to long and sharp weapons to inflict damage.
As more spears got stuck into the mammoths, the creatures roared. Their backs were filled with pikes, some turning into hedgehogs as they bled out.
“These humans are hunting them into extinction!” Xiao Hei frowned as even the calves were targeted.
He hesitated, knowing intervening wouldn’t help, becoming their target instead.
The wounded mammoths went berserk while the leader, with his bloody mane, charged with ten times the strength.
Boom!
The barrier sported more cracks and the earth split for thirty meters.
Hua Yuntian winced, “Mammoth leader, I know you understand me. Hand over your tusks and I’ll let you live. If not for yourself, think of the calves.”
The mammoths never stopped their rampage, banging on the barrier until they breached it.
The leader blew his trumpet.
Two wounded pregnant mammoths and three calves burst through.
The leader and the males stayed behind. They turned to the humans with rage and madness in their eyes.
They didn’t strike the barrier for their own sake, but to help the herd survive.
“Damn it!”
Hua Yuntian’s face fell. He was very much young, underestimating their strength when he set up the array.
He jumped, rushing after the fleeing mammoths just as the leader blew its trumpet, the sound waves cutting off Hua Yuntian’s pursuit.
He flung a flying sword at the fleeing mammoths but the leader blew his trumpet again, hurtling the weapon out of the way with a sharp gust.
“You three, go after the stragglers! The rest of you are with me in killing these beasts!” Hua Yuntian raged.
“Yes!”
The three Unfettered Sect disciples stuck Swift Talismans to their legs and gave chase.
While they were after the young and pregnant females, the rest dealt with the strong males.
Xu Hei’s eyes shone, going after the three.
One of them was in the 9th layer, while the other two were in the 7th.
Xu Hei swam through the earth like a fish in water. He never underestimated his opponents, not now, not ever, striking hard and fast before they would do anything to jeopardize him.
Not to mention that the 9th layer of Qi Refining Stage was two layers higher than him.
Hua Yuntian led the others against the male mammoths, fighting them with ease thanks to his higher cultivation.
The only problem was that these demons had tough hides and would take some time to put them down.
Xu Hei used Earthen Motion in full swing, arriving right under the two female mammoths trailing behind the three calves to protect them.
“These animals sure know how to run. Well, you’re not going anywhere now!”
The cultivator with the higher cultivation took the lead, pointing a thunderbolt at one mammoth’s tail from thirty meters.
Xu Hei lacked any sympathy for the creatures’ plight, not striking until this moment.
“Earth Spike!”
The ground jutted into a sharp cone beneath the cultivator, straight for his exposed rear.
“Damn it!”
The man’s features twisted but he was caught on the wrong foot, having just unleashed an attack. All he could do was use a shield to block.
Pff!
The shield shattered to pieces and the spike ran him through from the bottom to the top of his head.
Flawless kill!
