    POV: Mary

What appeared was a humanoid robot that spoke into broken sentences.

Just what is this? She(?) is clearly a strange being. In this world, machines are treated as the Lost Technology and do not flourish instead, it’s magic that supports daily life.

But no matter how you look at her, her appearance is exactly that of a robot. Or rather, she looks like an SF-esque being, that is clad in full body armor. This is clearly futuristic technology even compared to my previous life which had all kinds of machines.

    It’s suspicious. Very suspicious, but…

“Wait a minute, Violet. Are you saying that this thing is a citizen of your territory?”

“Yes, she is a proper citizen of our domain.”

    “… Looks like… you’re not joking…”

Vermillion stood in front of me and asked while protecting me, but because not only Violet, the others with her, and for some reason, even Kriemhild nodded in affirmation, he realized she was not kidding.

However, he remained vigilant and continued to stand there protecting me.

“Well. I. Did. Not. Think. You. Would. Be. Able. To. Trust. Me. Right. Away. So. Why. Did. You. Call. Me.?.”

“Oh, to tell you the truth—”

Perhaps she understood from past experiences that she would not be believed right away, so before explaining, Ms. Robot asked why she had been called.

While she listened, I could hear the whirring and beeping sounds from her…

“… And that’s the story. Sorry but can you take me with you on your way back?”

“No. Problems. I. Will. Have. To. Purify. Vampires. Living. In. The. Old. Castle. On. The. Way. Back. Is. That. Okay.?.”

“Oh, yeah, that’s okay. I’ll wait outside and drink tea while you do that.”

“Wait a moment, Heartfield. Is it okay to do something like that as a detour?”

    “Well, it’s Robot, after all.”

    “…Erm, Violet?”

“It’s Ms. Robot, after all. It’s too late to think about that now.”

    “… I see?”

Vampires vary in strength, but they’re not the kind of beings that can be defeated ‘on your way’.

However, everyone, including Kriemhild, responded with something like ‘Yeah, well… I guess it wouldn’t be strange if she did it.’

The Bulstrode siblings were also expressionless, and yet seemed somewhat resigned…

Meanwhile, Vermillion was racking his brains over how to respond after seeing their reactions, I moved away from him a little and approached Mr. Clo to sneakily ask him what I wanted to ask.

    “Mr. Clo, Mr. Clo.”

    “What’s wrong, Ms. Mary?”

“It’s about her(?)… Is it like how it was in the stories I’ve seen in my previous life? Like a special reincarnation gift for you? Maybe if you fight while wearing that, you’ll be able to gain endless fighting ability and easily defeat the Demon Lord, or maybe the person inside will dwell within you and you two will fight as one body and soul?”

“I understand what you are trying to say but you’ve got it wrong. Mr. Robot is a woman wearing ancient technology. It has nothing to do with me or the Ring of Fire.”

Mr. Clo answered my question while seeming like he had a hard time explaining. When I heard that, I immediately…

“In other words, it’s really a Human Form Robot, isn’t it?!”

    “Huh?”

    “What’s wrong, Mary?”

When I heard that, I immediately became excited.

I always thought that robots only existed in manga and anime, but I never imagined I would encounter an autonomous robot in this world! It’s the epitome of romance!

“Well, there’s somebody inside so it’s different from a man-made machine.”

“But it can float in the air! I can do it too if I want, by using magic, but she can do it simply with the machines!?”

“So you can do it— wait, Ms. Mary?!”

I quickly approached Ms. Robot and thought of holding her hand, but I felt like touching her without permission would be rude and indecent, so I coughed and said hello.

“Nice to meet you, Ms. Robot. My name is Mary Sue. Can I touch the thing you’re wearing — your mechanical suit-like thing?”

“You. Are. Very. Courteous. That. Is. Fine.”

“Wait, Mary. You can’t just casually touch somebody you don’t know the identity of—“

“Thank you very much! W-wow…! It really does feel like metal, and I can feel a strange power instead of magic…!”

    “M-Mary?!”

It was made of a mysterious metal, and I also could not understand its structure. Basically, I did not understand anything about it.

However, this kind of thing is good because it still works even if you skip the detailed explanation. It’s made in a way that denies Event Horizon and Maxell’s Demon by and generates unlimited energy. The way it only gives a slight hint behind its principles is how it should be.

“Can you shoot beams or something like that too? By holding out your hand like this.”

“Heh. Fine. I. Shall. Live. Up. To. Your. Expectations. Here. I. Go. [Sixth Cannon]”

“Wait, stop it, Robot. Isn’t that the shock cannon that breaks down wyverns into molecules?”

“Yes. In. That. Case. I. Will. Bring. Down. [Divine Staff]—“

“A technique that can pulverize targets hundreds of meters underground isn’t better either!”

“Wait, Heartfield! This thing really better not be something dangerous!”

Ohh, I want to see both. I don’t get Six Canon, but a staff from god is self-explanatory and is probably a scientific weapon from my past life which uses the kinetic energy of Mach 9. It’s truly in the realm of science fiction. I’d love to see it at least once!

“I. Am. But. A. Fragile. Citizen. Your. Highness.”

“I don’t know any weak citizens like you! You need to recognize your strength properly! Though you’re technically not dangerous, you are one of my citizens. That’s why I don’t mind it. But, you need to be careful.”

“So Heartfield, you’ve to admit it, huh?”

“Ms. Robot, can I wear it too?”

“You. Can. Use. It. Temporarily. Except. For. The. Face. Part.”

“I want to wear it right now! Oh, but if you’re going back with Mr. Clo… maybe it would be better if I also came to Shiki and wore it there!”

    “Mary!?”

Now that it’s been decided, I have to start deciding right away.

The academy is also entering a long winter vacation, so I have to apply for the use of the Warp Stone and go to Shiki…!

“How to say this… I’m seeing an unexpected side of her. I never thought Sue… Mary could lose herself like that.”

“Ahaha, you’re right. I was also confused when I first saw Robot, but looks like Mary loves ancient technology (?) like her.”

“Come to think of it, the children in Shiki… seemed to love it too. Especially the boys. I think… they called it ‘romance’.”

    “Does seem like it…”

    “What’s wrong, Kriemhild.”

“It’s nothing. Oh, by the way, I might come over to Shiki to visit during the holidays so I’ll be in your care then.”

    “Yeah, of course.”

“Yup, looking forward to it… a robot, huh?”
