The Adventurers Guild of Ibro was on the opposite side of the church and plaza, a little further down the main road.
The Adventurer’s Guild is a large organization that spans over not just Shrendol kingdom, but also surrounding countries.
If you register at the Adventurers Guild of Ibro, that information will be shared with all the associated guilds.
Along with everything that can be recorded, including, of course, your adventurer rank, the details of the quests you’ve completed so far, the circumstances under which you’ve failed to complete quests and the penalties you’ve received as a result of the violation of rules.
This is for the sake of judging the feats of the adventurers fairly and it’s also a measure to ensure the clients’ safety and earn their trust.
If there were no past records left, the adventurers that were hired as escorts could suddenly change into bandits in the middle of the journey… it’s not too far-fetched for things like this to happen.
If they cannot earn the client’s trust, the very reason for the Guild’s existence would be shaken.
When the ‘rite of independence’ ends and you become able to use magic, it becomes possible to register as an adventurer.
I don’t know how it works, but in order to become an adventurer, it’s necessary to register your blood and the pattern of your mana.
It seems that this pattern of mana can’t be read when you’re under the ‘protection of the Goddess’.
Since magic tools are necessary to read such information, registration as an adventurer can only be down at the town’s guild.
There are small villages which don’t even have guild branch offices, so many of the kids who’ve gone through ‘the rite of independence’ will visit the adventurers’ guild, causing big crowding that day.
I was touring the food stalls with Horacio to kill time until the crowd thinned out.
I thought it’d be empty already, but there were still many children inside the guild.
Perhaps they had already finished registering or were here only as companions, they were looking curiously around the interior of the guild.
“Nyango, should I register too?”
“They’ll make an ID. for you at the Knight Training School so you don’t need it. Besides, it costs money to get the guild card made.”
“Ah, I see, makes sense.”
The Guild registration card is also a type of a magic tool, where personal information like blood, mana pattern and rank are registered.
The manufacturing method is Guild’s top secret and its modification or fabrication is punished by law as a felony.
Since it’s such a special card, you need one silver coin for registration.
In terms of Japanese currency, it’s around 1000 yen, but for kids from mountain villages like us, it’s a lot of money.
Perhaps because of the flood of children, who’ve just finished the ‘rite of independence’ every year, the Guild had a dedicated window and about 5 children were queueing up.
I’ve heard that the line extends outside the Guild during peak hours, so it was the right decision to kill time at the food stalls.
There was a young female canian at the window, efficiently carrying out the registration work.
The Guild lady I saw for the first time after 10 years of reincarnating in this world gave me a more plain impression than I’d imagined.
I was hoping for somebody with a big chest and good figure, someone who the adventurers would want to request at least once, but the reality wasn’t so sweet.
By the way, I can’t see female adventurers in bikini armor either.
Since it was the day of the festival, the number of adventurers shouldn’t be as high as usual, but most of them are well-built tigrans and leoans, bovans and equans, the same can be said for the children who’ve come to register.
I’ve been keeping watch ever since we entered the guild, but there’s no other felan here other than me. This feeling of isolation is no joke.
The female staff and the window seemed to have also thought that Horacio was the one who wanted to register and I’d only come to accompany him.
She was surprised when I told that I was the one registering and Horacio was just accompanying me.
“My apologies. You would like to register for the first time, yes? Then, could you please fill out the necessary information in this form? In case you cannot read or write, I will help you out.”
“It’s probably okay.”
The form was designed to include questions about name, residency, age and the attribute.
I filled in all the fields and returned the form.
“Sky attribute?… How rare. Well then, please put your hand on this crystal ball.”
There was an unfamiliar magic tool next to the window and it seemed that I had to touch the part that looked like a crystal ball to register.
When I put my hand on the magic tool crystal ball, it emitted a hazy light blue glow.
“Yes, it’s definitely a sky attribute, I’ve confirmed it. Your mana index is 32.”
“Is 32 too small, after all?”
“Right. It’s said that the average value of an adult male is about 120, so it’s low at the moment, but it’s known that the mana index can improve until you reach 20 years of age so please do not worry about it too much.”
Even though I was told that I still had room to grow, I was still a bit shocked to find out that I only had one-fourth the amount of mana of an average adult male.
I’m guessing here but the average of adults that are active adventurers should be higher.
“Hey, Horacio was scouted by the knight order, but is it okay to check his mana amount only?”
“Oh my, by the knight order?… it’s fine, please go ahead.”
When Horacio put his hand on it, the magic tool crystal ball emitted a strong green glow.
“Amazing… your magic index is 456. It makes sense that you would be scouted by the knight order.”
The adventurers that were observing the surroundings stirred, and the children who’d come to register looked at Horacio with envy.
I knew it, but when I was shown the almost 15-fold difference between us, I couldn’t help feeling shocked.
“Well then, could you please use this needle to provide a drop of blood?”
After following the instructions and dripping blood on the blood card and having it read by the magic tool, my registration as an adventurer was completed.
“Now then, Mr. Nyango from Attuca village, you are now registered as an F rank adventurer. Please be sure to present this card when you receive work through the guild in the future.”
“Does the card have an expiration date?”
“Not really, but if there is a change in your place of residence, etc., please go through the procedures at the guild. Also, if you lose your card, you will need a silver coin to re-register.”
“Okay, I’ll be careful not to lose it.”
As I was staring at my long-awaited Guild card, it was snatched away by a hand that reached over from above.
When I turned around, surprised, there stood an Elkan man with large horns, looking at my guild card with a bored expression.
“What are you doing, give it back!”
“Hmm, a memento of the ‘rite of independence’, huh?… that bovan kid might have some promise, but you there’s no way you can work properly as an adventurer so you won’t need something like this.”
He’s probably in his mid-20s, and his towering physique from my perspective easily surpasses 2 meters if I include his horns.
Looking at the long sword hanging from his left hip and the armor he’s wearing, he doesn’t seem to be an adventurer just for the show.
“Just using physical strength isn’t the only job adventurers have. And if I remember right, bullying a child like me shouldn’t be the work of adventurers either.”
“You’re a kitty with a glib tongue. Here, try taking it if you want it back.”
The Elkan man raised the card above and waved it.
The felan bodies are agile, but that’s not the height I can reach by jumping without a run-up.
“Haa… what a bad hobby.”
“Here, what’s wrong, here here… Agh, my eyes…”
I blindsided him with the hardened air the size of a fingertip that I split in two, raced up the man’s body while he was panicking and retrieved my Guild card.
“Let’s go, Horacio!”
“You damn brat, what the hell did you do! You bastard!”
Even if it’s only as strong as Styrofoam, a direct hit in the eyeball can still deprive somebody of sight for a short time.
I took Horacio before the elkan adventurer recovered, bolted out of the Guild and blended in with the crowd.
“That was amazing, Nyango. How did you do it?”
“It was just a little trick with the sky attribute magic…”
Once we blend in the crowd of the festival, there are so many children like us that we’ll be hard to find.
“Oh, there’s a weapon shop. Let’s take a peek, Horacio.”
“Ehhhh… isn’t it too early for weapons?”
“Won’t you become able to use swords and spears right away once you go to the training school?”
“Do you think so?…”
“Just looking is free.”
There are blacksmiths in Attuca village, who make farm tools and pots, but they don’t make full-fledged swords.
There were weapons that made me excited just from looking at them on display in the shop, such as a large sword longer than me, and a long sword with intricately decorated sheath, but nothing that a felan like me could wield.
It’s rare for felans, who only reach 120 centimeters even as adult males, to get jobs as knights, soldiers and adventurers where they’d have to fight using their bodies, so there’s very little demand for weapons.
A bovan like Horacio could go to the knight training school, train, also grow bigger physically and become able to wield weapons like this.
Having finished window-shopping at the weapon shop, we resumed our tour of the food stalls and also looked around the normal shops.
Relishing the sweets that looked like a cross between karintou and churros, and fruits that we’d never seen at our village, we walked looking around the magic tool shops, clothing shops and bag shops.
Horacio’s shoes were worn out and had holes in them, so I bought him new ones.
“No way. I’d feel bad because I already got a fire magic tool from you.”
“What are you saying, Horacio? You are going to represent Attuca village.” I won’t let others laugh at you after looking at your feet.”
“But I don’t have that kinda money, Nyango and if they ask me how I got them…”
“Oh, don’t tell anybody about Blaune mushrooms. Make up some good story.”
“Jeez, Nyango…”
In Attuca village , deep in the mountains, there’s one general store and one pharmacy, and bartering is more common than using money.
This is the first time since my reincarnation that I’m walking around the stores looking for something I’d want, so I feel like no matter how much time I had, it wouldn’t be enough.
“Town is amazing, as expected. There are so many shops selling so many things.”
“What are you saying, aren’t you going to the royal capital that’s even more amazing? The royal capital is much bigger than Ibro, so be careful not to get lost.”
“Ehhh… I’m not really confident about that. It would be better if you could come with me, Nyango…”
Horacio is incomparably bigger than me both in terms of body and the amount of mana, but his flaw is that he’s too timid sometimes.
“Royal capital, huh…. It would be impossible right away, but I’ll definitely go there one day. Be sure to be able to guide me by that time.”
“Ehhhh, no wayyy…”
“Hahahaha, do your best, Horacio.”
“Yeah!”
Wandering around the streets of Ibro in circles, we splendidly got lost.
