In the otome game, ‘When the Ring of Fire is lit, World is painted red’, many characters meet different endings depending on the route. This is true even for the non-main characters like the love interests.

Sometimes, Ms. Schwarz is the enemy of the main characters and dies, while at times she can be persuaded and becomes a good friend for them.

Although Roshenna Rivers can’t be reasoned with, since he’s the enemy, he doesn’t show his true colors outside of His Highness’ route and stays quiet. At times, he would be shown doing a good job as the next head of his family.

In Chartrouse route, his parents die in the line of duty, but in other routes they continue to serve as the Knight Commander and Archwizard, serving as Chartreuse’s goals.

There is also a female knight candidate who’s known Chartreuse since childhood and appears mainly in his route, sometimes becoming a rival and sometimes being an understanding friend to Chartreuse and the others.

There are many other characters, but depending on the route a person takes, there’s a big difference between the happiness and the misfortune of the appearing characters.

However, Lady Violet— Violet Valentine is an exception.

The bad ending is one in which she causes the heroine to be deeply wounded in an accident caused by her jealousy and fury. She would then get killed by the equally enraged love interest, who would soon be exiled from the kingdom.

In another route, she becomes a victim of a resurrected monster, and ultimately leaves the story midway through, being treated as the main cause of the protagonists’ crisis.

After challenging the heroine and the love interest to a duel and losing, she’s left with no place at the academy and is then sent to a distant monastery, only mentioned as the one of the victims at the end of the story.

After the same duel and expulsion, she gets married to an ugly man from the countryside, and it’s hinted at the reunion that while she’s alive, she’s being treated in perverse ways.

There are other possibilities too, but the point is that no matter which route, she’s not treated well.

She inevitably suffers misfortune or dies.

In other words, when Ms. Mary said ‘what kind of role Violet Valentine is playing’… that’s what she was referring to.

For Ms. Mary, many people are able to become happy in some routes, so they ‘can be saved if something is done’, but she sees Lady Violet as somebody ‘who can’t be saved no matter what’.

Leaving aside whether Ms. Mary is a reincarnator like me or not, her words made it obvious that she knows the game. Otherwise, I would not be able to understand her saying that Lady Violet ‘could not be saved’.

She also would not say, ‘that’s her role so I can’t do anything about it’.

―― In this case, I would have preferred a more straightforward hostility like his Highness and the others

We were able to deal with His Highness and the others who were hostile towards us by either brushing them off or answering back with hostility. In other words, we could easily express our feelings towards them, but in Ms. Mary’s case, the logic of that is lopsided.

After all, her desire to make others happy is genuine, and rather than usurping Ms. Kriemhild’s… protagonist ‘role’, it feels as if she simply settled into this position to make sure that everyone is happy. In fact, she has the power to actually achieve ‘what’s good’ and does so without regrets.

“Ms. Mary, you are undoubtedly a wonderful person.”

Ms. Mary is trying to use her knowledge to bring happiness to those around her. This comes from her good nature of simply wishing happiness for others.

The reason I feel threatened is simply because I know that Ms. Mary has prior knowledge of this world.

But…

“What is it all of a sudden?”

“Your desire to make others happy is admirable, and it is a fact that the academy is brighter and livelier than when I was here. I’ve also heard that His Highness and the others have become more considerate of others due to your influence, so I would assume they are changing in a good way.”

“Thank you. However, they are the ones who made the final decision to change. I merely aided them.”

“Even so, it is true that things have progressed in a good direction thanks to you. I respect you for that and I think you should be proud of it. But,”

“But?”

Yeah, but one thing is for sure.

“I hate you.”

I absolutely hate this woman named Mary Sue who’s in front of me.

I understand that this alone is an indisputable fact.

“… I’m sorry. It seems that what I said offended you. I don’t expect to be liked by everyone. Just like how there are people who don’t like the things I like and there are people who like what I don’t like. We all have incompatible parts.”

“That’s not it, Ms. Mary. Ah, no. I understand your point about likes and dislikes, but this is not about that. It’s a fundamentally different issue.”

“Fundamentally?”

“Yes.”

She fundamentally does not understand it.

I thought something similar when I met Lady Violet and I used that knowledge when I met the others too.

But Ms. Mary…

“Ms. Mary, do you really want to make everyone happy?”

There were times when my prior knowledge helped me handle things well. At times it even saved me.

However, I merely used the knowledge to take countermeasures, and I am well aware that they are living beings who had left the proof of their lives I don’t know about in places I cannot see.

“Of course. Is it strange to wish happiness upon those in front of me?”

“No, not at all. Even I’m not hard-hearted enough to stand by and watch someone become unhappy in front of my eyes.”

“Right? Then, why are you denying it?… Is it something to dislike somebody over?”

I’m not denying it. Ms. Mary, who wants to save others like Father Snow White is a good person.

However,

“But who is this ‘everybody’ that you want to make happy?”

“… Pardon?”

… Maybe if I was in the same generation as Lady Violet and the others, and we were classmates in the Azalea Academy, I might have been able to recognize the similarities between this world and the ‘Ring of Fire’ more clearly and became like Ms. Mary is now.

The ‘everyone’ Ms. Mary is referring to is undoubtedly not focusing on the people themselves, but rather the ideology of ‘the characters from the game are in front of me, so I have to save them!’

“Well, there are many other things I would like to say… but for now, the thing I want to say the most is…”

Well, yeah. I’ve been making up various logical excuses, but the thing I dislike the most is…

“You’re saying that Lady Violet can’t be happy? Don’t joke around. Just what do you take my wife for?! There’s no way I would come to like you when you don’t even treat someone precious to me as a living being!”

That’s the only reason why I hate the current Mary Sue.

And that reason alone is enough.
